I thought of shoving them in a crappy Nursing Home, plenty of openings now. (Just a joke Ann, unfortunately my parents are long gone. It was just a humorous [apparently not] way of piling on Cuomo.) 😉 Edited March 16, 2021 by CarpetCrawler 1
Augie
On 10/16/2020 at 8:13 AM, plenzmd1 said: was gunna say..cause I am an idiot. Weird, my pops was not into sports at all, but somehow my brother and I fell in love with the Bills early in childhood. Funny story, and some of the older folks may appreciate and the younger ones say no way. My first fandom was a split between the Chiefs and the Bills. Back then, home games were NEVER on tv, sellout or not! Chiefs were always on when the Bills were at home, so i grew tolike them as much as the Bills. That lasted till i was prolly 9 or 10, but still have a soft sport in my heart for Lenny Dawson. Also, who else here had to plead with their Mom to either go to early Mass or to leave after church after communion cause the Bills were on at 1? Lord, RIP Mom, but damn that woman would always say a true Catholic does not go to Mass at 10:30 and never cuts out after communion, and proper manners dictate we say hi to the Priest and socialize for a bit with other parishioners after church. Would not get home till like 1:20, and there would be my old man, not a Bills fan and not a Catholic, sitting in his chair watching the game just to laugh at me and my brother. Fun times! Ohhh, this explains SO much! Child abuse can result in so many forms of damage! 😊 My dad was into the games, so Mass came early. Fine with me back then! Home game? What church? Arrive early! Cutting down a Christmas tree on a Sunday was an express event. Cut the closest one down, get it to the car, and get home to see whatever game was on. Usually the Cowboys. 😓 The Bills have been a bond for four generations now. I would take Bills Digest to my dad when I was done reading it. I hear from my son almost daily with any news that comes up. I get much of the same news online eventually, but I don’t get the Bills app updates intentionally so he can surprise me. We were on the golf course yesterday when I got a text from friends (yes, it’s true! Friends!) that Mongo had quit ( a/k/a “resigned”). He immediately felt the need to get the details! It was awesome! The Bills bring families together in a way no other team can surpass.
Nanker
I went with a friend to a preseason game I believe it was in 1966 at Aquila’s Stadium in Rochester. The Bills hosted the Dolphins. My friend picked Miami and I picked Buffalo. What I recall most from that game was that The Bills had the fattest OLineman I’d ever seen. He was wider at the waist than he was tall. Figster
Born in Buffalo so it kinda goes with the territory and I wouldn't want it any other way. Love me some Buffalo Bills/Sabres. Yes, the 16 game losing streak sucks. Big homer, as many of you already know. So go Sabres!!! Edited March 29, 2021 by Figster 3

Popular Post The Guy In Pants
Probably a ramble. Oh well. Old enough to know what football was; that's when it started for me. Maybe, 35 years I'd say. It wasn't just that I was a young fan of a football team; I was enthralled with the Buffalo Bills. You know; If i were that age today and had some weird parents, they would have considered me to be species confused, put me on some pigskin hormone and paraded me around to talk shows to capitalize on their new found fame . I was that kind of Bills fan as a kid. Addicted, enthralled...pick a word. All I talked about was the Bills and all I ever wanted to do was play football. Tecmo Super Bowl, backyard games, card collecting....shoe boxes full...wish I still had them all. My entire room was covered in cut outs from Sports Illustrated and newspapers of every single Bills football picture they printed. Taped, tacked, glued they were hung in meticulous order. Offense over here; defense over there. I don't think there was much wall space left. I remember getting that Bills uniform with the plastic helmet and shoulder pads one Christmas. I still recall when I got the Jim Kelly wrestling buddy. Got my Bills starter jacket from the Salvation Army. I remember that day like it was yesterday. School clothes shopping.....(yeah; we didn't have a lot of money but they never let us go without. Ever. Got my first pair of Nike's there too. Used colored markers to try and make them look new hahaha but they were better than the Voit's) So; it was the colors that caught my eye. I knew that color scheme anywhere and when I pulled it off the rack I about died right there man. Ran to mom and put it in the cart. A little big but it was mine. I wore it home; summer or not. Mom and dad were never football fans. But dad told me that when they saw just how much I loved the Bills; they became fans. I remember watching the games, turning the antennae to get the picture better or listening on SE-93. Mom and I sat on the couch and cried when Norwood hit that wide right. I blamed myself thinking if I wouldn't have prayed, he had made it. My older brother bought me a piece of the turf from the first tear up. That was my Bills game rug. Sat on it when we watched the games. Wish I still had that. I wrote every player a letter, I bet. I would run to the post office with mom and dads key.. box 733. Still remember that. The anticipation of having one of them write me back was overwhelming. Jim Kelly wrote me back the most. But, most of the sent me things like pictures and such. Thurman Thomas sent me a small puzzle of him; it was about 3x6 in size and 4-5 pieces. I wrote lyrics to Jingle Bells. mom and I called it Jingle Bills. We even got to sing it over the phone one morning before school to the DJ at SE-93. Sent them to Jim Kelly and he sent me a letter back saying great lyrics and another autographed picture. I still have that. I still recall them.... "Dashing down the field; with their big red helmets on. Kelly throws a pass, Andre Reed is gone. Howard blocked the way, Thurman Rushes past. Oh what fun it is to see those yards go by so fast. Oh, Jingle Bills Jingle Bills, Jingle all the way. Oh was fun it is to see those Bills play." Love and miss you mom. That was a fun morning. Felt on top of the world haha. My older brother would drive me to Orchard Park to see the stadium. Even during the offseason. I only got to see the Bills play in person one time. Bills Giants; preseason. Free tickets from midget Football. It was myself, my father, Robert Green and his dad. I got caught looking at the cheerleaders with the binoculars. I still recall dads words; "How's the game?" I looked at him and realized the cheerleaders were nowhere near the players. Oh well. Love ya dad, Miss you. Bills lost that game. Got a chance to go to Jim Kelly Camp at St Bonaventure. Scholarship through the midget football program. First time away from home. I got homesick the first night. Kid I roomed with tried to cheer me up with Wethers Originals. Didn't work. The counselor bought us all pizza that first night and saw I was homesick. Next thing I knew, we were outside and Jim Kelly rolled up on a golf cart. He drove me around to talk to me awhile. He gave me a set of Bills wrist sweat bands. I have the pic from camp still; and yes, I wore them every day. I am fairly certain the childhood fever of Bills football is still alive and well inside. I still watch every game. I still wear bills pants and shirts during them......bought an Allen Jersey for this year. It's the Buffalo Bills. I couldn't walk away if I tried. I live too far away to make any games now but one day when health for myself and wife's family is better may make one or two. 6 2
NCBillsFan
@The Guy In Pants that was a great synopsis of your fan journey. Making up your own Bills version of Jingle Bells reminded me of the 1980 Bills version of the 12 days of Christmas. I had the 45.

Ann
We have had a lot of new members join since the last post in this thread. Maybe I should wait to bump until closer to the start of the season, but we have longer term members here that have yet to add their story. Your story is interesting, I promise. 🙂
