Looks like the selling points are (1) stay in a place where the team will be winning for awhile and (2) this is a bad year for FA's. Why take chances with a one year deal when you can sign up for three.

 

Seems consistent with players hating the franchise tag.  They want some multi-year security (even though their contracts aren't guaranteed).

So, reading tea leaves... CB seems to be where they're leaning in the top of the draft. 

 

Mongo gets signed next (most likely), then maybe they'll have some magic left to find a way to get Lawson (who I covet but is likely a dream now). Looks like TE isn't in the cards.

Maybe The Pelugas should just hire the assistant GM of the Hurricanes. See if maybe it’s the Carolina connection that gets the Sabres over the hump...
