Total power outage in Lebanon as electricity grid shuts down after running out of fuel

Beirut (Lebanon) | ANI: Lebanon which is already grappling with skyrocketing inflation and shortage of essential items is now facing an acute power crisis due to fuel shortage. Lebanon's electricity grid has shut down entirely after the country's two main power stations ran out of fuel, Sky News reported citing media reports.

The al Zahrani and the Deir Ammar power stations stopped working after supplies of diesel were apparently exhausted, and energy production dropped to below 200 megawatts, said Sky News report.

"The Lebanese power network completely stopped working at noon today, and it is unlikely that it will work until next Monday, or for several days," an official told Sky News.

According to Al Jazeera, Lebanon's continuing economic crisis has created a fuel shortage, adding extended power cuts to the miseries of its people. ...

This has been developing for quite a while.  Lebanon's been in a state of economic collapse since 2019, and their currency is so devalued that the country basically can't buy fuel.  And recently, Hizb'allah is importing fuel from Iran on their own, essentially pursuing their own energy and foreign policy independently of the Lebanese government, who either won't or can't do anything to stop them.

Also wouldn't be surprised if imports have been adversely impacted by the Beirut port explosion last year.  Don't know where the port facilities for petroleum imports are in Lebanon, but the port of Beirut is still devastated.  Between that, the shipping disruption occurring worldwide right now...and I wouldn't entirely rule out Russia and Iran playing games to destabilize Lebanon and expand their influence in the Levant, either...

@NCBillsFan I had posted about this last night but couldn't find any verification so I deleted it. Thanks for that verification.

It is illegal for federal employees to strike so they stage a sickout. Pretty sure I saw where this was in protest of the vaccine mandate.

This is the tweet that I took as confirmation of it being a vaxx mandate protest.

Seattle Schools cuts more than 100 bus routes

Beginning Monday, Seattle Public Schools is suspending 142 school bus routes. The cuts are necessary because of a national bus driver shortage and because some drivers are declining the state-mandated coronavirus vaccine for public employees, district officials say.

Out of the 18,000 students who are eligible for bus rides, about 6,740 could be affected by the bus route cuts, district spokesperson Tim Robinson said...

I think this is backfiring on them.

I was surprised when I didn't see "feature, not a bug" in response to his last tweet offering to fix the issues.

This could go in the War on Wrongthink thread as well as many others.
Be like California because it working so well right now. 🙄
This is why Senate Republicans walked out of the legislature.
Gubner Brown, aka Kommandant Kate,  is just going to implement her agenda anyways.

Oregon moves to clean up diesel truck pollution

"And the state’s low-income and BIPOC communities are disproportionately located near highways and industrial zones, causing public health disparities, Paykar said."

“Washington and California both have laws that require the phase-out of older engines,” Reed said. “Those engines and trucks have been sold in Oregon because we haven’t kept pace, so we have some of the dirtiest fleets on the West Coast.”

Rules mirror California

The rules are identical to those adopted by California in June 2020. The federal Clean Air Act allows California to adopt new motor vehicle emissions standards that differ from national standards, and allows other states to adopt California’s standards.

Yeah, states can pretty much do what they want.  If they want to mirror CA's standards, they can.

Great...now let's talk about economic disparities caused by supply chain disruptions and inflation.

These morons are unbelievable.  They genuinely believe economic disadvantage is innate feature of demographics and race that outside factors have no impact on.

Good info.  Sounds like a reasonable solution, if you wanted it fixed.

BUT

I believe this administration wants to pull off their own version of Holodomor and ultimately starve/kill the poor in flyover/red enemy states.  And they can do this because DIESEL FUEL IS LITERALLY KILLING OUR PLANET@!!!!  It gives them cover.  Hope y'all in Iowa know how to grow your own sustenance!

The supply chain problems are like the vaccine mandates.

Manufacture a crisis that would otherwise resolve itself

Wait for it to eventually fix itself

Take credit
