GG1
Couple of instant reactions Have no idea of how good Canadiens were supposed to be this year, but they were completely undressed by the kids. Finally a coach's rhetoric matches the results on the ice - Donny didn't predict miracles, but said the Sabres would be the hardest working team on the ice. That showed clearly. I don't remember the last time a Sabres player was in the right spot all the time, and they seemed to win every loose puck. Marty mentioned in the first intermission that the players were talking about a new practice ethic and how they were pushing each other on conditioning. They said they've never been in better shape. That was evident as the third period went on and Canadians just couldn't keep up. If they keep playing like this, last place will be out of hand before you know it, and I may have to pay up for the November game tix.

shrader
They also seemed very appreciative of the amount of noise that tiny crowd was making down the stretch. 1

Alaska Darin
Hutton gave up EIGHT on 26 shots in his Coyotes' debut.

It’s amazing to think that we could have actually done worse with our goalie signings. 1
Taro T
Fun game to be at. The NHL announced the crowd at over 8,000 but would be very surprised if there were more than 3,000 in the building. At least 4 sections literally had 25 or fewer people in them w/ Section 301 only having 15 leading on that front. The Sabres lined up in numerical order for RJ to announce them, but in the Game Day Program both teams were listed alphabetically. The gang that can't shoot straight strikes again. For as few of us as there were, thought we did a pretty good job of making noise. It must've been Gallagher's slash on Mittelstadt that broke the wrist. That'll be a tough loss but hopefully Granato has them up to the challenge. No idea what happened to Jokiharju. Looks like he'll be out at least a couple of weeks too. Anderson has always played well in the MMArena and last night was no exception. Hope they don't end up burning him out. After his goal, Okposo was noticeably fired up and played great the rest of the way. Thought Cozens looked much better last night than in the preseason. Especially w/ Mitts out, they'll need that to continue. Hinostroza was always around the puck. If Eakin could take a 1 timer he'd've had a goal in the 1st, but he can't so a nice cross ice pass ended up wasted. Surprised Bryson played as much on the PK as he did, but he looked good there. (Caveat, Moe-ray-all without Weber might have the league's worst PP.) Moe-ray-all's goalie was hot garbage & the Sabres took advantage of that. Hopefully they can do that to Hutton or the other scrub again on Saturday. As said above, fun game. Too much beer for the normal post-game recap, but it was a special occasion & wifey barely imbibed, so no harm, no foul.

GG1
Don’t know if you all saw the open letter that alternate Captain Okposo penned to the fans. It’s clear that he took a sledgehammer to the departed and soon to be departed former “leaders” of the team. But what’s even more telling is the players’ response to his leadership, and their not so subtle hints that they are glad to move on without the talented, but apathetic stars. 1

It’s hard for me to believe that a guy with Eichel’s talent could have actually been holding the team back by basically being a douche. But he did grow up in Boston so…..
