Arm of Harm
Josh Allen is of course the quarterback we all know and love. Ethan Allen was born in 1737, and played a role in the Revolutionary War and in Vermont becoming its own state. How do the two compare? Leadership Josh Allen: a leader of men on and off the field. A guy other guys want to play for. A team captain. Ethan Allen: Colonel Commandant of the Green Mountain Boys, a Major General of the Vermont Republic Militia, and a Colonel in the Continental Army. Provided political leadership to Vermont. Notable Accomplishments Josh Allen: had the second-best 2020 season of any NFL QB. Led the Bills to the AFC Championship. Ethan Allen: he and his Green Mountain Boys helped Vermont successfully resist New York State tyranny. Captured Fort Ticonderoga very early in the Revolutionary War. Price on His Head Josh Allen: pass rushers eagerly attempt to sack Josh if they can. Ethan Allen: the NY governor put a price of 20 pounds on Ethan's head (worth about $3,300 today). That was later increased to 100 pounds ($16,500). Recklessness Josh Allen: Will sometimes go for the big play, even if it's covered, instead of taking what the defense gives him. Ethan Allen: Led an ill-advised attack on Montreal, which resulted in his own capture. Accuracy Josh Allen: has become an accurate passer. Ethan Allen: I am not aware of how accurate Ethan Allen was or wasn't when firing a musket. Courage Josh Allen: will hurdle defenders if necessary. Ethan Allen: In battle he led from the front. Overall It's difficult to meaningfully ask, "which of the two is better?" as they play/played different positions. All that can be said with certainty is that Josh Allen is great if you need a quarterback, and Ethan Allen was great if you needed someone to resist New York State tyranny or British rule.

So . . . Lamar Jackson is best known for his mobility. Stonewall Jackson was best known for his mobility and his immovability. Advantage: Stonewall! I know Grant was not averse to taking heavy casualties in order to achieve victory, so I wouldn't mind Lamar taking up that philosophy. It is impossible to compare two people, unless they have the same last name. With that in mind, I will compare DeShaun Watson with Dr. James Watson, who along with Dr. Francis Crick discovered DNA. Notable accomplishments DeShaun Watson: is a very good NFL QB. Dr. James Watson: won Nobel Prize for his role in discovering DNA. Worked with the NIH to establish the Human Genome project. Off-field controversies DeShaun Watson: accused by multiple women of inappropriate sexual conduct. Dr. James Watson: stated that I.Q. differences between blacks and whites are due to genetics. Punishments received for the above DeShaun Watson: TBD Dr. James Watson: forced to retire from Cold Springs Harbor Laboratory. Honorary degrees revoked. Appearances cancelled. Subjected to harassment and physical intimidation. Overall The discovery of DNA is a larger accomplishment than good quarterbacking for the Texans. In reaching this conclusion I bore in mind the following two factors. 1) DeShaun Watson does not have a Lombadi Trophy. 2) DeShaun's accomplishments have benefited the Texans, not the Buffalo Bills. Dr. James Watson is the better of the two. Edited October 25, 2021 by Arm of Harm
