Official ‘Other Games’ Thread - Week - 11

With the midpoint of the season in full swing, we are beginning to understand which teams are front runners, jockeying for position in the playoffs and which teams will be selecting early in April's draft.

This week's slate of games kicks off tonight with the Patriots traveling to Atlanta to face the Falcons for the first time since Super Bowl LI. A game the Falcons had no business losing but somehow managed to hand Brady and company their 5th ring. Since that day, Atlanta has been on a downward spiral having replaced their coach and much of the roster. The Patriots went on to win another SB but after that season ('19) Brady moved on to the Buccaneers and the Patriots fell from the lofty perch that they enjoyed for two decades.

Mac Jones is their new QB and has led them to a record of 6-4, just half a game behind the division-leading Buffalo Bills. Should they win tonight, depending upon the outcome of this weekend's Bills game, they would be in first place in the AFCE. It is still early in the rookie's career to be anointing him the next Brady but, he has looked pretty good in Belichick's scheme. It will be interesting to see whether defenses catch up and figure out ways to slow him down. If not, we may be looking at another decade-plus of a strong New England team.

There are a number of other games this weekend that have playoff-seeding implications. Depending upon the results, there could be a shakeup of the AFC standings.

Edit: Although, as I reflect on it, hitting this shit-fest of a game with a giant flaming meteor would be rather redundant, wouldn't it?

There's been discussion about the problems for teams making the road trip on the short week, but of the 10 TNF games so far, six were won by home teams, which doesn't tell us much.

The Falcons seem to be hit or miss this year, mostly beating  bad teams, so a lot depends on who shows up. Unfortunately the birds have a habit of giving up big leads, none bigger than to the Pats* in the SB, but these ain't those teams.

Is it too much to ask for the upset? I don't think so.

Okay...but is it too much to ask for the majority of calls from the officials to make sense tonight?

Probably.

I got a shiny nickel that says the new darling of the NFL who "is every good as Brady in his first nine games" gets a PI off a 3rd-and-long heave to the endzone.

I've got a whole quarter that says we never hear him say "How many times we gotta score?" like we heard Allen say last year.

I'm hoping we see plenty of the Dirty Bird tonight.

Nephews finished the Bird cage yesterday. Still dirty , but flame resistant ;  )
