John Madden RIP '36-'21

I always remember sitting on the couch with my dad, watching football and just laughing at John with his coaches clicker and interjecting BOOM! We used to get a real kick out of that.

And a prediction.  John Madden will grace the cover of Madden 23.  EA will then retire the Madden franchise and rebrand it as EA NFL 24 / EA NFL 25 / etc / ...

One of the first Bill's games I ever attended as a kid was a MNF game against the Raiders in early - mid 70's.  Bills as an underdog won the game on a late drive and TD by Ahmad Rashad IIRC. Great memory.  Madden was the Raider coach at the time.

Beef on Wicky. 🤣

We actually won that game with Todd Collins at QB.

Madden was a huge part of my childhood, first watching him coach the always entertaining Raiders, then his books, and finally on television.  I learned a lot about football but his absolute love of the game itself was more contagious than Covid.  He was also a genuinely nice man and never let fame change him.

RIP to a one of a kind American.

Madden Football is racist...

Quote

I have lots of opinions on John Madden. The creation of the Madden video game was not a great development for the U.S. It further glamorized violence and dehumanized Black athletes, helping to establish plantation cosplay that has grown worse in the era of fantasy football.

Plantation cosplay?  :classic_laugh:

Is that really a surprise? Thought police has been creeping into existence for quite sometime now.

Of course not.  Here's another.

And her logic justifying it is impeccable.  "I was the monsterback on my powderpuff team, and I'm right.  So if you disagree with me, you just proved my point!"

I'm tempted to reply "Interesting hypothesis.  I'd like to see the supporting data and your analysis."  But I'm sure I'd just get accused of...<shakes Magic Intersectionality 8-Ball>...speciesism.

I love the fact that he always had an opinion and they were thoughtful without being "overthoughtful".

I think in his first book he chastised coaches who wasted time outs instead of taking 5 yard penalties, especially early in games/the second half.  It's a simple take but he was dead on.
