That's one recent equipment trend that I just don't understand. Which officially makes me an old man now I think. In just a few short years the "in" style guard went from stylized fangs like this: 

 

 

Which were kind of badass and cool. At least I understood why a man playing the ultimate man's game would want to look more ferocious. 

 

Then in a blink we went from that to this: 

 

 

Hey, do you I guess. But I don't get why would an NFL player want to infantilize himself? If it was a form of hazing put on younger guys by the veterans, I'd get it.
