OK, What is the origin of "Punt God"?

NFL Draft 2022: Buffalo Bills Select ‘Punt God' Matt Araiza

</snip>

Why is Araiza known as the Punt God? Well, the 21-year-old had a record-breaking junior campaign in 2021 with an average of 51.19 yards per punt, the highest mark in NCAA history. Araiza punted the ball 79 times for 4,044 yards en route to winning the Ray Guy Award for the nation's best punter.

He had 39 punts of at least 50 yards (an NCAA record), 18 of at least 60 yards (an NCAA record), six of at least 70 yards and two of at least 80 yards. His 86-yard bomb against San Jose State was the longest punt in the nation last season.

</snip>

And this one says…

</snip>

Even these statistical accomplishments usually wouldn’t attract the adoration that Araiza has received in this NFL Draft process. But when you boom not just one, but two punts over 80 yards, you earn some attention. After hitting an 86-yard punt against Hawaii, Araiza has become something of a social media starlet, earning the nickname “Punt God.”

As others have said, let's hope he can hold for place kicks.  If he can, they've got a keeper.

I appreciate all the hype videos of him crushing the ball, but not every kick needs to get crushed.  Does he do any directional kicking, or is he able to drop it inside the 10 with a little backspin?

Love hearing he cares about his net.  Because that's what actually matters.

Keep in mind that he's only got one season of punting, so it's going to be a bit of a work in progress.  I think with his leg/athleticism it was 100% for the pick.  Lefty punters cause problems for returners.
