Did it say that Josh was first Bills QB to have an 80% completion game?

transplantbillsfan
How about that! This was just an absolutely unbelievable game for Allen. It's gotta be his best as a pro... and it was almost ENTIRELY through the air. Try saying Josh Allen is just a running QB now!!!! Breaks Jim Kelly's single season franchise record still with 4 games to go. There was a love-fest going on tonight with Louis Riddick in terms of Allen... AND I LOVED IT!!!!

IDBillzFan
Look at this throw and catch. Beasley had one tonight as well, another toe-tapper to the right.

You're right. They've been advertising Jim Kelly's single season TD record for weeks now and I thought the number was different. It's 34 and he's one shy of tying that and 2 shy of breaking it. Let's hope he does it in his next Primetime game
Ann
@transplantbillsfan, this is no where near as long a thread as your title implies. 🙂
transplantbillsfan
https://theathletic.com/2246422/2020/12/08/bills-49ers-observations-josh-allen/ Josh Allen’s best game should have the Bills thinking bigger: 7 observations 1) Allen was every bit of the X-factor the Bills needed This game featured a classic Bills script under coach Sean McDermott. The Bills opened as favorites over 5-6 San Francisco, but so much came in on the 49ers that the Bills were the betting underdogs by kickoff. This Bills team, unlike any other I’ve covered over the last decade, thrives on getting counted out by the masses, and Allen especially. For many around the country who hadn’t seen Allen since Thanksgiving of last year, he showed them how much he’s improved in his third season. Allen was electric from the start of the game to his fourth-quarter touchdown pass to rookie receiver Gabriel Davis. Allen was reading the defense, checking in and out of plays based on what they were showing him and finding coverage lapses all over the field. The accuracy, the arm strength and the anticipation on throws were all next-level. The Bills easily could have crumbled after getting stood up at the goal line on their first drive, making a goal-line stand of their own and surrendering a touchdown after a fumble set the 49ers up just a few yards out from the end zone. Allen didn’t let that happen. He engineered a 77-yard touchdown drive on five plays on the next drive to tie the game. From there, the Bills didn’t look back. Allen racked up 375 passing yards, four touchdowns and an 86 percent adjusted completion rate within the first 51 minutes of the game. The 49ers had the core players of their impressive linebacker and secondary units available for the matchup. It was the same defense that stymied the Rams last week. Given the opponent, audience and level of performance, this was easily the most impressive showing of Allen’s career. If Allen is capable of these types of performances against good teams, there isn’t a goal that is too high for the Bills this season. With how much Allen continues to improve and how he’s shown he can beat any defensive approach, the Bills might have a quarterback who can change the course of the franchise for years to come. 2) Forget establishing the run: Let Allen Throw After the bye, McDermott made it a priority to get the rushing attack in order. The Bills moved the ball effectively against the Chargers, but it seemed to come at the cost of their passing game. The pass-blocking unit never got into a rhythm. Allen looked as out-of-sync as he had the entire season and flirted with some reckless play. It’s become clear the Bills aren’t going to fulfill their potential this season if the rushing game is what’s leading the way. It shouldn’t be close to a 50-50 split, either. After losing one fumble at the goal line, and nearly another one, to begin the game, the Bills finally committed to their offensive identity against the 49ers. They need to let Allen, Stefon Diggs, Cole Beasley and the rest of the receiving cast lead the way until teams start defending them and opening up room for their running backs, like the Bills did against the Chiefs in Week 6. Allen and his receivers have shown they can beat any type of defensive approach thrown at them. Zone coverage? Allen forced both the zone-heavy Seahawks and 49ers to abandon that. Man coverage? The Dolphins in Week 2 learned that didn’t work. Zero-blitzes, delayed blitzes and bracketed receivers? Allen has plotted his way through all of them, and if he didn’t do so one week, he corrected it for the next. It’s why the Bills need to lean on Allen’s passing abilities the rest of the season, as they did Monday.

transplantbillsfan
I love that we've now had 2 extremely solid Primetime games from Allen. And now I can say that Allen broke JK's single season TD record for the team!!! The stats tonight weren't spectacular, but that's a spectacular D he just beat. And he was better than the 1st ballot HOFer opposite him. And honestly, as spectacular as Allen has been this year, Diggs is 1B as far as MVP for this team goes. What a move by Beane! And finally, from da man himself: 2
Beer__League__Hockey
Like Collinsworth said, the scrappiness that Josh showed last night was huge for many reasons. The pressure formula that the Steelers employed was getting home, but he overcame with quicker routes and leaning on Diggs. He won a game while not running around like a headless chicken. He hung in the pocket often. He won a weather game, as he hasn’t had the best performances in wet weather. And finally - Josh’s desire to win is real, and while we’ve seen it since mid 2018, now the Bills have talent and the NFL has seen it under the biggest lights.

I just thought he looked so much better last night. After a pretty poor first half, the halftime adjustments were a marvel. And that last drive where they controlled the play for 7+ minutes to end the game? What a series.
