Hyde Done for Year with Herniated Disk [Update - Designated to Return from IR and Practicing!]

I honestly think he’s top 5 on a list of most important players on the team, so this is a huge blow.

hopefully he recovers well, but this also creates problems for the future as well with Po’s contract up and no blue chip talent waiting in the wings.

The “play Tre at FS” when he gets back healthy line forms behind me.

Posted

Earlier this week I commented that seldom does losing a single player wreck a team, and that losing Watt and Hopkins was the exception to that rule for Pittsburgh and Cardinals, respectively.

The BIlls aren't the Steelers or Cardinals. There will likely be something of a curve for chemistry, but if the Dline remains healthy to get pressure and our offense remains healthy to take leads, the team will be fine.

It sucks for Hyde, but it's not the end of the world.

I agree. There’s only one player that immediately takes us out of the running for the best team in the league.

That being said, I think you can argue that after Josh and Diggs, he’s probably the third biggest lost possible (Maybe Von)

I think we need Tre on the boundary more and for now, I have confidence in Johnson. Hamlin I'm a little more concerned with if he has to go in, but if he does and it proves true, perhaps move Benford inside since he has the tenacity and size for it?

It's less a single player being out, and more Hyde out, Poyer questionable, Jackson questionable, and Benford and Elam starting.

The defensive backfield could be all backups and rookies tomorrow.  THAT doesn't exactly instill me with confidence.

And this wouldn't even concern me as much if Phillips and Oliver were available. No one is going to keep up with Hill in particular for long, so a really good pass rush is a must. Maybe we can shuffle the line a bit to get that pressure from both outside and inside this week?

If this hobbled one-arm-tied-behind-its-back team beats the Fish tomorrow -- and they should given the Fish defense --  the Tua takes will give us plenty to feast on while the team prepares for the Ravens and Steelers.

They have a bad defense, we have a hobbled defense. They have Tua against a hobbled defense. We have a guy who gets Fathers Day cards from a team with a defense that gets no pressure, gives up the most yards per pass, and can't stop the run.

I didn't see Phillips and Oliver were out.

I'm starting to get a 2007 feeling, when injuries on the defense hit the Bills so hard they had to sign WR George Wilson as a strong safety.

We have just under 3.2 million in cap room if you go by Spotrac.  Do we go looking or do we wait for a more pressing position to come to the surface?

I suspect Cam Lewis (who worked at safety in the PS) will be elevated to the 53.

Wait.  Poyer, Jackson, and White are all back in a few weeks.

This is a pretty serious dent in the secondary from injury...but it's still only momentary.
