None really blow my skirt up at first blush. But if he'd come on a (very VERY) cheap prove-it deal, I'd take a run at Michael Thomas and his bum ankle/leg/whatever. He might not make it out of camp, but if he can get healthy he'd be incredible with Josh and Diggs.

We should ask him for the "Josh Allen Discount"

Yeah Mike, you could probably get 1 - 2 million more elsewhere,

But where are you going to get a QB that can get the ball to you anywhere ?

Oof.  I’d be a no thanks.  Worst work ethic in sports.

Might be right there - I don't know much about him off the field.

This is the ESPN top 50 free agents list. If you want to read the blurb on each player, head over to the story. It is a bit different than PFFs top 100 (well, the top 50 is different).

Lamar Jackson will be franchise tagged.
Poyer and Edmunds are listed in the top 25.

See anybody you like?

2023 NFL free agency: Ranking top 50 available players

1. Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens
Age entering 2023 season: 26

2. Orlando Brown Jr., OT, Kansas City Chiefs
Age entering 2023 season: 27

3. Javon Hargrave, DT, Philadelphia Eagles
Age entering 2023 season: 30

4. Daron Payne, DT, Washington Commanders
Age entering 2023 season: 26

5. Geno Smith, QB, Seattle Seahawks
Age entering 2023 season: 32

6. Mike McGlinchey, OT, San Francisco 49ers
Age entering 2023 season: 28

7. Saquon Barkley, RB, New York Giants
Age entering 2023 season: 26

8. Jamel Dean, CB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Age entering 2023 season: 26

9. Daniel Jones, QB, New York Giants
Age entering 2023 season: 26

10. Jessie Bates III, S, Cincinnati Bengals
Age entering 2023 season: 26

11. Dalton Schultz, TE, Dallas Cowboys
Age entering 2023 season: 27

12. James Bradberry, CB, Philadelphia Eagles
Age entering 2023 season: 30

13. C.J. Gardner-Johnson, S, Philadelphia Eagles
Age entering 2023 season: 25

14. Jawaan Taylor, OT, Jacksonville Jaguars
Age entering 2023 season: 25

15. Dre'Mont Jones, DT, Denver Broncos
Age entering 2023 season: 25

16. Josh Jacobs, RB, Las Vegas Raiders
Age entering 2023 season: 25

17. Tremaine Edmunds, ILB, Buffalo Bills
Age entering 2023 season: 25

The tape shows that Edmunds has improved as a coverage linebacker, with his route awareness and ability to get to depth as a zone defender. He's a long, 6-foot-5 linebacker with downhill acceleration against the run and second-level range to track the ball. Edmunds had 66 solo tackles, one interception and one sack this season. He's young, but the 2018 first-round pick has started 74 games in five seasons. That experience will be attractive for teams looking for an off-ball linebacker this offseason.

18. Tony Pollard, RB, Dallas Cowboys
Age entering 2023 season: 26

19. Marcus Davenport, DE, New Orleans Saints
Age entering 2023 season: 27

20. Jakobi Meyers, WR, New England Patriots
Age entering 2023 season: 26

21. Lavonte David, ILB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Age entering 2023 season: 33

22. Jordan Poyer, S, Buffalo Bills
Age entering 2023 season: 32

It will be interesting to see how teams value a 32-year-old safety, but we still see the versatile ability of Poyer when he's on the field. With four interceptions and eight pass breakups this season, he showed that he's a productive defender who can play from post, split field or rolled-down alignments. He dealt with knee, ribs and elbow injuries this season and missed four games, but he has played in at least 15 games every season since 2017. Plus, his coverage skills still show on the stat sheet; he allowed just 14 catches for 102 yards as the nearest defender in coverage, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

23. Zach Allen, DE, Arizona Cardinals
Age entering 2023 season: 26

24. Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, San Francisco 49ers
Age entering 2023 season: 31

25. Odell Beckham Jr., WR
Age entering 2023 season: 30

26. JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
Age entering 2023 season: 26

27. Cameron Sutton, CB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Age entering 2023 season: 28

28. Evan Engram, TE, Jacksonville Jaguars
Age entering 2023 season: 29

29. Dalvin Tomlinson, DT, Minnesota Vikings
Age entering 2023 season: 29

30. David Long Jr., ILB, Tennessee Titans
Age entering 2023 season: 26

31. Yannick Ngakoue, DE, Indianapolis Colts
Age entering 2023 season: 28

32. Mike Gesicki, TE, Miami Dolphins
Age entering 2023 season: 27

33. Rock Ya-Sin, CB, Las Vegas Raiders
Age entering 2023 season: 27

Age entering 2023 season: 29

35. DJ Chark, WR, Detroit Lions
Age entering 2023 season: 26

36. T.J. Edwards, ILB, Philadelphia Eagles
Age entering 2023 season: 27

37. Byron Murphy Jr., CB, Arizona Cardinals
Age entering 2023 season: 25

38. Brandon Graham, DE, Philadelphia Eagles
Age entering 2023 season: 35

39. Ben Powers, G, Baltimore Ravens
Age entering 2023 season: 26

40. Nate Davis, G, Tennessee Titans
Age entering 2023 season: 26

This doesn't bode well to me for bringing Poyer back, but what do I know?

It's better to get rid of a guy a year too early than a year too late.  I love Jordan Poyer.  Absolute warrior, great dude, all the things everyone already knows but you just can't risk paying huge money to a DB on the wrong side of 30.

If it's all about the money, then he's going to go elsewhere.

he's the poster boy for why the team did not tackle well.

The coaches basically cut out live tackling and blocking, due to the excessive injuries suffered.

no surprise, then, the OL did not sustain blocks, tackling by the defense was horrendous, and the effectiveness of our DL against our OL in these limited practices created a perception that did not translate to Sundays.

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying here.

The NFL and players agreed through the collective bargaining process to severely limit practice contact.  It's been going on for years.

The owners, for all their money...are dumb AF.  they could have had a 20 week season and still only play 16 games per team per season.  They just refuse to add more bye weeks as though fans don't tune into the NFL when their team isn't playing.  It's really an "everyone wins" situation because there would be zero "short week games", fewer injuries, fewer games where injuries are a factor, more television weeks, and most likely longer careers for the best players.

If they're cap strapped while Herbert is on his rookie contract, they got problems. This is going to be his fourth year, do they redo his contract this year and wipe the fifth year option?

Is that even a possibility?  I thought teams weren't able to mess with rookie contracts (exception being cutting players).

I don't know to be honest but didn't that happen with Kyler Murray? I guess that is what I was basing my post off of.

I think the new contract actually starts at the end of his rookie deal (the age 27 year on).  It doesn't make sense for owners to have a rookie salary structure in place and then be able to blow it up on a whim.  It was their biggest win of the CBA.

You are correct.

So...does that mean the clause about film study doesn't take effect until the 2024 season?

Not transphobic?

I would just find it hilarious if they put in a contract stipulation that said "You have to spend a minimum number of hours on film study...but not until 2024."

The Arizona Cardinals...asking the Jets to hold their beer since 1988.

I dunno. The CBA seems to indicate differently(?).

C O L L E C T I V E B A R G A I N I N G AGREEMENT (bottom of page 33)

Quote
(k)  Renegotiations.
(i)  A Rookie Contract for a Drafted Rookie may not be renegotiated, amended or altered in any way until after the final regular season game of the player’s third contract year.

Additionally, looking at Murray's dead cap hit for '22, it was $110mm. I highly doubt that his rookie contract would come anywhere close to that number in year 4.
