Hey everyone! I hope all is well and that life in general is treating you and yours kindly.

Where does the time go? It doesn't seem that long ago that the '23/'24season just ended, yet, here we are on the threshold of the '24/'25 season.

And with the approaching new season, this is (what seems to be) my annual plea for help. Our generous benefactor has offered to supply the cost of images for another year. I am very grateful for the continued support. What I don't want, and will not do, is to accept that kindness without the ability to fulfill the other end of that bargain.

Here is where my sob story comes in... At the beginning of the year, I embarked upon a venture that has, and is consuming much of my waking days currently. As such, I can't commit to being able to do everything it takes to process the images correctly. I really don't want to not be able to have images this year but unless we get some help, that is a distinct possibility.

If you can spare some time to help process the images, any time at all, it would go a long way towards making them a reality for this coming season. I'm sure many of you could live without them but they sure do make the site look nice.

I'm open to any and all suggestions on how to make this happen. Please offer up any discussion that you may think might help. And, on the outside chance you might think you could commit to helping, that would be great. Shoot me a PM if you like and we can go through what is needed and how we could break it down.

I hope our little corner of the 'net serves and provides the space where we all feel we can be comfortable.

Thanks!

I am totally ignorant of the process, what is involved in doing this?

I work on two WordPress sites and also use the Constant Contact email client.

I'm not conversant in the Invision platform.

Here's a few things I thought of quickly:

What file format do the images come in?

Do they need to be resized or re-rezed or otherwise reformatted?

Do they come in a batch or as individual files?

How often do you receive the files - daily, weekly, and what day(s) of the week do they come in?

Are the photo containers built into the site's pages?

I might be of some help.

I have worked on wordpress for 15+ years and have no problem working on invision. In many ways, it is easier.

Well, it's been awhile but to the best of my recollection...

First, I log into the providers website, peruse images from the game, select which ones I like then download them. It used to be that I would have to reduce the size of each images, individually. However, last year I obtained software that will let me reduce the images size of each, in a batch. This was a terrific time saver and a good investment.

After all images are resized, I then upload them to this site in a folder within the Gallery. Then begins the process of giving credit to each image, a small blurb about said photo (which is taken directly from the image website), and a title for the image.

Last year, because of time constraints, I would place the images in a private folder and when I was done processing a bunch, or ran out of time, I would move the finished ones to a public folder. While I believe I was pretty prompt in processing them, there were a few instances where I couldn't fully complete the task until Tuesday.

I am imagining The same private/public folder scenario this year if we can get the help.

The IPS software really is quite easy to use, small learning curve I would think.

The images come in .jpeg. .jpeg can be a very large file. As such, for rendering purposes, I convert them all to a .webp file which allows for, virtually lossless compression, and the images to load quick as a snap.

All files are posted individually and can be accessed at anytime during our contract with the provider. Additionally, they have images from every NFL game as well as many other sports and lifestyles. All of which we have access to.

The photo containers are built into the Gallery section, yes.

If you think you might like to help, that would be great.

With the above said, I guess what we would need is one or two individuals to do the work on this site. Namely... adding info to each image. Title, the blurb and copyright credit. We would set it up so whomever would have permission sets that would allow for such.

Here's where I scare anyone who might think they would like to help. I think, if memory serves correct, I had it down to about three or four hours per week last year (in previous years, it was almost double that with processing each image individually).  Maybe an hour, hour and a half to download images, process them, and upload them. So that would leave roughly another hour and a half to two and a half hours for the rest of the work.

Your consideration is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am proud of you for knowing the questions. I have no answers to any of that, but I’d be glad to help if I can.

I will reach out to one or 2 of my nephews. They know so much.  Both Bills fans.
I will reach out tomorrow and ask them to look at the site and join, both in college. Then maybe they can reach out to you.

Foxx , sent message to one nephew. Have not heard back yet.

My strong suits have nothing to do with computers bud. If they did I would help. Sorry.

You don't really need to have computer skills, it is just a simple data entry. Thank you though.

I wanted to publicly acknowledge and thank, both @CarpetCrawler and @Nanker for their help processing images this year.

They were a great help in getting these images up and viewable to all. The time involved can be quite a lot. Because of their selfless contribution, we were able to get them processed promptly. You may have noticed their creativity in entitling them. I must admit, I laughed more than a few times.

So again, :thankyou:Carpet Crawler and Nanker for your tireless efforts on behalf of us all, your efforts are greatly appreciated.

This thread makes me think of one of my favorite scenes from Goodfellas.

"What do I know?  I know how to sit down and post about the Bills still needing a pass rusher and more speed at WR."

But please add a link to contribute to the hosting/bandwidth costs.  Happy to contribute.

You're very welcome, thank you for the opportunity.

As someone who's not very computer savvy, I found it a great way to learn and discover more about all the dedication, work, and love you put into our world here.

Once I got the hang of it, it turned out to be fun, and it was wonderful working with you and @Nanker. Forgive me all if I overdid the snark now and then. I hope everyone got my sometimes feeble attempts at humor, and if anyone got an occasional chuckle out of it, I'm very pleased.

It was an honor and a pleasure to help you out @Foxx. I'm very happy I could contribute to our community, and I hope it made things a little easier for you. When the new season gets going, I'll be ready.

So, you’re on for 2025?

BTW, I thought the commentary and labels on the images were fabulous!! I especially liked the AFCCG. 🤣
