Of course, samurai movies were essentially cowboy movies.  Kurosawa was heavily influenced by John Ford.  (And Sergio Leone heavily influenced by Kurosawa.  The western genre begat the samurai genre begat the spaghetti western genre.)

I never saw it, but didn't need to, to know that movie deserved on the DC Tom Cinematic Suck-o-Meter at least four penguins out of five.  (Yes, of course, more penguins are worse.)
