2021 Schedule Expansion: 17 Games Now Approved

I'll be a little curious how various incentive programs get restructured, or how they were handled while everyone knew the 17th game would be added. In other words, Singletary gets a $500,000 bonus for hitting xx number of yards in 2021. Now he has an extra week to hit a number that was supposed to be for 16 games.

Also curious how single-season records get goofed up. I sere Josh setting a team record for most throwing yards in a season, followed by the usual ATOP downer pointing out that he needed an extra game to do it, etc.

Not my original idea but per game makes most sense so all years are normalized.  Does not work as well with things in smaller volume like interceptions but overall makes the most sense.

To the bolded, why wouldn't it translate to those stats as well?

One thing not addressed is how the extra game plays out in future matchups with the same division.

Example:

Year 1: NFC East @ Home

Year 2: NFC West @ Away

Year3: NFC South @ Home

Year4: NFC North @ Away

Year5: NFC East @ ?

Would we again get the NFC East at home and never have to play them at their homes? Same with the respective pairings or would we have to play back to back 9 game away seasons followed by back to back 9 game home seasons every 4 years? Seems to me they would have to rotate the home games for divisional games to be fair.

They can advance the rotation.
Year 5: NFC WEST Home

By the time we get back to the NFC East, it would be an away game.

OJ is the ONLY Running Back to rush for over 2,000 yards in a 14 game season. All the rest had more games to get yards.

18 games is next...

NFL already aiming for future 18-game schedule, perhaps as early as 2025, per reports
The league expanded to 17 games for this year

The NFL is about to host its biggest season ever, expanding to a 17-game schedule this year. But don't count out yet another expansion in the coming years. According to NBC Sports, the league is likely aiming for a future move to 18 games -- perhaps as soon as 2025 -- if not earlier. The NFL's current collective bargaining agreement, which runs through 2030, outlines only a move from 16 to 17 regular-season games, but Peter King reports "most observers ... think 18 games is on the way," with ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio saying it's "just a matter of time" until an additional week is up for a vote.

18 makes more sense than 17... schedule wise.
Two preseason games and no more.

Each team would play their Divisional opponents twice = 6 games

Each team would play two entire Divisions of Conference opponents = 8 games

Each team would play one entire Division from the other Conference = 4 games
