You and your mother are both well on the way, you're already about 60-70% immune. From what I hear about Moderna #2, you both should increase your water intake 24 hours before and after the injection, try to get a good night's sleep the day before, and take 2 or 3 ibuprofens a half hour before the injections if your stomachs tolerate it. It's not unusual at about 24 hours after getting it, to feel a little blah and achy and even have a low grade temperature. It just seems this kind of thing is most common with Moderna, but plenty of people feel no side effects.....even if you do, everyone feels fine the next day. Thanks for the tips. Not worried so much about aches or fever. On the other hand not a fan of nausea and vomiting. My luck I end up with Moderna. : ( Edited April 6, 2021 by Figster

I took some Motrin before the second Moderna shot to get ahead then read the directions where they did not want you to do take any. No harm that I saw.

No harm that I saw. No harm that I know of, the controversy is based on an article in the British medical journal, Lancet that theorized ibuprofen could worsen the effects of COVID, there is no hard medical evidence indicating it. It's just that they haven't studied the effects of taking it beforehand so they can't say it's okay. Every doctor I know says to take it before. https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/09/nsaids-ibuprofen-not-tied-severe-covid-19-death Quote Contrary to early reports, the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen is not associated with severe COVID-19 disease or death, according to a cohort study published yesterday in PLOS One. Researchers analyzed data from all 9,236 Danish residents who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, from Feb 27 to Apr 29, of whom 248 (2.7%) had filled a prescription for an NSAID in the 30 days before their diagnosis. In Denmark, a prescription is needed for obtaining NSAIDs, except for low-dose (200-milligram) ibuprofen. Relative risks among users, nonusers There were no significant differences between NSAID users and non-users in terms of 30-day death rate (6.3% of NSAID users vs 6.1% of non-users), hospitalization (24.5% vs 21.2%), or intensive care unit (ICU) admission (4.9% vs 4.7%). Matched analyses showed that NSAID users were no more likely than non-users to die within 30 days (relative risk [RR], 1.02) or to require hospitalization (RR, 1.16), ICU care (RR, 1.04), mechanical ventilation (RR, 1.14), or dialysis (RR, 0.86). An RR of 1 indicates a neutral risk. Edited April 6, 2021 by CarpetCrawler
GG1
Waited out and now scheduled to get J&J next Tuesday. [Rant] If you need proof positive that US is in an institutional decline, look no further than Essex County NJ vaccine scheduling system. The county set it up early this year, with "clear" eligibility guidelines. You could schedule an available vaccine slot or register in the system to get vaccinated as slots open up. I wanted to get my wife inoculated first, because she's more concerned about it. I put her on the wait list in February because there were no available slots when I first registered. That made sense then, since the county needed to clear the priority lists. But as we got well into March, I was miffed about why there was no follow up on the scheduling for a 55 yr old w/ immune system issues. Compounding the anger were the multitudes of otherwise healthy 40-somthings bragging about their vaccine appointments. Turns out, you could jump the wait list by logging in at the crack of dawn and registering for available slots on the spot. WTF? What kind of health system allows line jumping for a potentially life saving shot? Fine, I decided to follow that route and started my early morning daily check. There were slots available for one-week out. But because our zip code defaulted to a specific vaccine location, I could not sign up for a vaccine even though there were 100's of available shots in the county. You could fool the system by claiming to live in another zip code. Then they further expanded the shot appointments, but the 1,000 slots were only available to county employees and teachers. There you go, creating an uber class consisting of public servants. Where have I seen that before? We are toast.

You probably filled out the forms too honestly, which is how it should be, but so many people were not doing that. Funny you mention Essex Co., my son goes to Montclair State University, and my daughter's fiancée is from Roseland. I live in Rockland Co., just a couple of miles from Bergen Co. Montclair State U in Little Falls, NJ 🙂 Christie wasn't kidding when he referred to Montclair as the People's Republic of Montclair. Luckily he got involved early on with the Newman Center and can totally be himself there. There are some good restaurants in in the area, Montclair is ritzy, but Just Jakes is a good place (fish sandwich) and the Grande Saloon in Clifton is a nice casual place. Overall my son is doing very well there and loves it. But yes, it's a school that emphasizes diversity and he has just learned to give the wacko leftist professors what they want. I don't know how close you are to there, but a couple of times a year they have food truck weekends at the Yogi Bera stadium there, that is definitely worth checking out. There you go, creating an uber class consisting of public servants. Where have I seen that before? We are toast. This is unfortunate for sure. The system is wack, because there hasn't been a system before. My friend told me on March 10 to begin calling my local health department at 3:30pm daily to see if they had any leftover shots that day. They have to throw them away if not used. I'm 43 and wouldn't have been eligible until March 26th here in Ohio. Sure enough, made a call on March 11, and 10 minutes later was sitting in the health department getting one leftover dose of Moderna. I get the second tomorrow. Point being, yes I jumped the line, and many others are doing so; there's no system to prevent it and I don't feel guilty. I heard a story of a truck driver stuck in a traffic jam. He was hauling vaccine; somehow he found a doctor or nurse in the jam, and they began dosing everyone around in the stoppage because if they didn't, all would have to be thrown away. It is what it is.
Wacka
Went on NYS site on March 29th and was going to make an appt for 4/1 in Niagara Falls. I live in Cheektowaga. The site timed out and that day was full by time I hot back on. 4/2 and 4/3 were available, but I wanted to wait to 4/5 because I take care of mom (94.). Plenty of slots open. Got there and it took 16 min with the 15 minute waiting period after the shot. Was at the NF Conference Center across from the Casino.

I do have an issue with people jumping the line to schedule a vaccine 2 weeks out.

Ann
Got the J&J shot today. We were told not to laminate the card as it could melt; it is not heat resistant. I am not sure if this is just NYS cards, or all cards. But, at the very least, if you are in NYS do not laminate.
Nanker
Glad to hear about everyone getting vaccinated. Thank goodness we have Joe Xiden as pseudopresident. Trump never could have accomplished this. Any truth to the rumor that these vaccines turn you into a *Patriots fan four days post vaccination? Asking for a pest Seriously, good health to us all. What a frigging year it’s been.
