Week 5: BILLS @ Titans: The Aftermath

Reactions from tonight's game...

The Bills looked terrible.  Nothing seemed to work, nothing seemed to gel. They seemed disinterested on defense.

The Titans had virtual meetings and they studied the Bills for almost two weeks. And, it showed.

At the end of this beat down, they are still 4-1. Let's see how they respond against KC.

wanted to stop by to say hi.

The game sucked.  But not as much  as the league forcing the game, and completely ignoring its “tough” protocols.

If there’s any more proof that Covid fear porn is bullshit, it’s this game.  If Pegula had any balls, he’d be bitchaslapping Goodell as we speak.

As for the game, there’s a reason Frazier hasn’t sniffed a HC opportunity in a decade.  But realistically, this team isn’t good enough when you remove 2 key members of its defense.  I hate the thought of extending Milano for big bucks, but he’s the glue of that defense.

Ugly, ugly game.   I wasn't that surprised they came out flat, the depleted defense got run over, Josh had a 'come down to earth' game, or that they lost, but there was a lot of head scratching that made it more painful:

The pre-snap penalties

The penalties in general....and always at the worst time

The coverage on the first punt

Giving up a 50 yard INT return because no one could be bothered to tackle.

Hughes (and whoever else) letting Tannehill escape to the right side to run for a first down any time he needed it.

The drops

These guys showed up asleep and never woke up.  Oh well, maybe they needed a punch in the mouth to stop believing their own press.  Time to get back to work boys.

TakeYouToTasker 2.0

This is what happens when the NFL tells one very good team to plan for two weeks to play a single team, and tells the other teams that they may have to play against two different very good teams over the course of one week; and then makes the first team play the second team.

Bills looked unprepared on both offense and defense - the defense especially. Josh trying to force the ball to Diggs in the first half, instead of taking what the Titans defense was giving him, was unhelpful as well.

The defense was reminiscent, to me at least, of the old Rex days - where half the players didn't know where they were supposed to line up on a given play.

I sincerely hope they get their shit together by Monday.

Also, give TN credit for a terrific defensive game plan.  They didn’t allow anything even close to deep, no crossing routes over ten years, forced the receivers to sit down for short gains, etc.

They made the Bills go the long field five yards at a time and it’s hard to do that without a drop, penalty or pick screwing up the drive.

Anyone here into the All-22 breakdowns?  I’d love to see what TN did that took us so far away from what we’ve seen so far this year.

I don't think I'm overreacting at this point that our defense has regressed considerably from last year and is a major concern going forward.  I'm hoping White and Milano get back in a hurry.  There's something to be said for chemistry and the loss of Star, Lawson, Phillips, and Alexander is greater than I thought it would be.  We had no edge containment, couldn't get close to Tannehill without blitzing, and Edmunds looked awful besides for that one pass breakup.  Beane and Frazier have their work cut out for them but this defense needs to get it figured out in a hurry.

As for our offense, the lack of a run game concerns me.  Without Simmons tonight I thought we'd have more success.  Allen started pressing tonight and it was a direct result of a poor run game and defense.  It's gut check time for this whole team and I'm hoping for a strong response against the Chiefs.

Also, screw the Titans.  They're the Houston Astros of the NFL whining about being victimized because they were caught.  Oh, and I never want to watch another Jay Feely called game again.  I'd prefer Booger over that clown.

Too bad he's made of crepe paper

What this tweet tells me is that all defenses are terrible this year with a few exceptions. If they can improve a little and the offense can keep on track, they're still a Super Bowl contender.

Wonder why that is. Conventional  thinking was D would be in front of the  O with limited practices etc.

I think it is the adoption of analytics on a more wide spread basis. Passing first down, passing 2nd down even if 2nd and 10, speeding the field to run the ball, 4th down attempts etc.

I agree. I did hear a week ago (can't remember which radio host) that penalties are pretty lopsided against defense this year. I didn't verify, but if true, it would affect how tightly defenders are playing.

Btw. It's great to see you here. 🍻

Edmunds is still young... but he's not really improving.

He needs to be on the outside.

So he can't overrun every play.

Somebody please explain why Beane kept Murphy at $10 million, but thought that Calais Campbell, Yannick Ngoyue, or Clowney would have been unnecessary luxuries?
