Cameron Brate, Akiem Hicks among potential cap casualties Bills should watch

The Bills are going to be bargain shoppers this offseason. With the salary cap decreasing, the Bills will have to shed salary just to have a chance to retain a few of their own free agents. Brandon Beane has acknowledged the team won’t be making big swings this offseason the way it did with Stefon Diggs last offseason.

But the salary cap shrinking also gives the Bills an opportunity. Beane loves signing players who have been cut by other teams. One benefit is those players can be signed ahead of free agency in some cases. They also don’t count against the compensatory pick formula, unlike players on expiring contracts who are signed in free agency. These players can also come at a value. Often they are veteran players who are no longer playing up to a lofty cap figure.

That’s why the Bills have been mentioned as a team in the mix for J.J. Watt, who recently asked for and was granted his release from the Texans. The fit is obvious given the...

There are 785 NFL Free Agents "available" for 2021. Here is the 2021 free agent list. Who do you want from that list? Who do you think they can realistically afford?

Which of the Bills free agents do you think will be back? Who do you think we have seen the last of?

Bills 2021 Salary Cap

Average annual value (AAV) is the most accepted measure of comparison for player contracts.

● Trent Murphy DE ($7.5M AAV)
● Tyler Kroft TE ($6.25M AAV)
● Josh Normon CB ($6M AAV)
● Ty Nsekhe RT ($5M AAV)
● Jon Feliciano G ($3.625M AAV)
● Brian Winters G ($3M AAV)
● Andrea Roberts WR ($2.3M AAV)
● Daryl Williams RT ($2.25M AAV)
● Matt Barkley QB ($2M AAV)
● Taiwan Jones RB ($1.75M AAV)
● TJ Yeldon RB ($1.6M AAV)
● Dean Marlowe SS ($1.55M AAV)
● Isaiah McKenzie WR ($962,500 AAV)
● Levi Wallace CB ($750,000 AAV)
● Andre Smith ILB ($750,000 AAV)

● Matt Milano OLB ($665,377 AAV) Note that his market value is $13.8M
● Corey Bojorquez P ($570,000 AAV)

I'd resign Feliciano, Wallace, Milano Bojo, Boettger.

Also sign Watt, Kerrigan, Scherff, Gronk or Hunter Henry. Also Short

Brate would be an excellent pickup.  We could use a TE who can catch and block.

Re-sign Darryl Williams, restructure or cut Morse, Feliciano can slide to center.  Need a guard.  I'm not convinced Cody Ford is a starter at any position.  We have zero push in the run game and that is a problem.

Getting an *in-shape* Star Lotululoukelealohaluieie  back would be huge.  Hes only 31 but taking a year off of football is always a crapshoot.  Addison is likely cut.  We will need a pass rusher and 1-tech space eating defensive tackle.

A pretty good article on what we may/should do this off season. I agree with most of the takes and think that indeed, we may only be a couple players away from hoisting the Lombardi.

Playing Bills GM: J.J. Watt, Jonnu Smith get Buffalo to Super Bowl LVI (Full offseason free agency, draft plan)

General manager Brandon Beane has the Buffalo Bills on the cusp of being a Super Bowl roster.

Since taking over as the team’s GM, Beane has overhauled the roster in his and Sean McDermott’s vision. Buffalo, once the laughingstock of the league, is now a perennial playoff contender. More than that, the team looks like they will be a Super Bowl contender for years to come.

Of course, this year will be Beane’s biggest challenge yet.

The team has several key contributors set to hit free agency and Buffalo has limited cap space. Shelling out huge money in free agency is not likely to happen, but adding some players that address needs at reasonable price tags will occur.

Who are some targets for the Bills?

We’ll look at some options in our position-by-position breakdown as well as say goodbye to certain players who may need to be released to create cap space. ...

I hate to give 'em a link since I had to do all the work of linking.

Jonnu Smith may be franchised, John Johnson may end up franchised (not that Buffalo wants/needs a safety right now). Corey Linsley a target?

Free agency news starting to trickle out (via agents is my guess).  If he's not going to be fully healed (although they say "new league year" so that means March 17th, right?) how much can he expect to get in free agency?

Report: Jadeveon Clowney expects to be medically cleared in April

Jadeveon Clowney is set to hit the open market again later this month and he reportedly won’t be 100 percent healthy when the new league year gets underway.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Clowney is expected to be fully cleared on the medical front in April. Clowney had surgery to repair a meniscus injury in his knee late in the 2020 season.

Clowney was limited to eight games after signing with the Titans last year. He recorded 19 tackles and forced a fumble, but did not provide the kind of boost to the pass rush that the team was looking for in the move.
