ESPN: Bills' Tremaine Edmunds praised by players as top-10 LB

Quote

... Surveying more than 50 league executives, coaches, scouts and players, ESPN helped us name the 10 best at each spot on the field according to those in the game.

When ranking linebackers, that group ended up naming Edmunds as the seventh-best in the entire NFL

Here’s what ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler wrote on Edmunds:

Highest ranking: 4 | Lowest ranking: Out of top 10
Age: 24 | Last year’s ranking: 8

Edmunds is one of the toughest evaluations at the position. He has elite physical traits, but his tape can leave evaluators wanting more.

“He’s always been really good, but there’s always a level you want him to go to but he hasn’t gotten to,” an AFC scout said. “Some of that is instinctual. He’s a great turn-and-chase player, going laterally.”

Multiple scouts say Edmunds, as a middle linebacker, might be miscast and would be more effective coming from the weak side. He didn’t have a great season in coverage; he allowed 476 yards as the nearest defender, according to NFL Next Gen Stats, which ranked sixth-highest among linebackers who were targeted at least 25 times.

That we know of..........

Our own @JabbaTheRutt might be able to give the inside “scoop” on that particular aspect of the story. Just sayin’.

Coach should scrap the LB “position” as per se. Let Milano roam the middle and put in Edmunds in as the DE that covers the TE.

JMHASO.

Von Miller on one edge, Edmunds on the other, Milano in the middle.

I'd say Edmunds in the middle...but honestly, I think he'd do better on the outside when he has only half a field to think about.

I'll believe it when I see it.

So...what, he's going to hit the wrong hole even more cleanly?

Keeping blockers off him hasn't been the issue.

He did look like the piano fell on him the last 15 yards of that fumble return last night.

As we used to say, it wasn't the piano that slowed him down...it was that he stopped to play it.
