London Calling

Some airlines have deals where you can fly into their country and then do a leg to another city that they fly to, essentially for free.  You can even do the trip as a "triangle".  I think I'd look into something like that.  Fly to another city.  Stay there for a couple days.  Fly to London for the game and then fly home from there.

The bold part got me excited!  😂

We’ve recently charged ourselves with coming up with some trips for this year. This just seems meant to be as it was on the short list already. Get some time in London and Paris. My wife has traveled so much she’s over it, and there were always reasons to balk. She’s excited about this.

EDIT: We will be with old friends at the end of the month in FL. One night is dinner with a lady I haven’t seen in 15 years. We had dinner with about a dozen at her condo (above the Ritz) and out of all those people, I was the ONLY one who had never been to BULGARIA! Seriously? Been there? I’d struggle to find it on a map!

London is where Mrs. snafu and I met. It doesn’t take much to convince her to go there.  I’m thinking a side trip to Lisbon. We know both those cities pretty well.

NICE!

We spent a few days in Lisbon at the end of a Windstar cruise in Fall of 2019. Immediately signed up for the next group adventure with dozens of friends. Then 2020 came up, and, well……..you were there.

Since you know the area, this is where we stayed in Lisbon. Awesome pool area!  Couldn’t get reservations in the almost empty dining room. “The chef will only cook so many meals in a night”. 😂

EDIT: I said dozens of friends, but it was dozens of acquaintances and two really good travel friends. You can’t travel with just anyone. Even my best friends would wear on me, but this couple is a perfect fit of easy going people.

Poteug is one of those places when you start dinner one night and they don’t get to dessert until the next morning.

I like it....it's the grown up version of wake and bake.

That said I'd rather watch the game from London. Will have to see if it's possible.

That's funny. I was trying to equate what it felt like to start watching football at 6:30 a.m. and it suddenly dawned on me: you ever work a trade show in Vegas, and get up early to hit the gym or have an early breakfast meeting?

You walk through the casino at 6 a.m. and pass by a guy sitting alone at a blackjack table, overflowing ashtray, lung dart in one hand, other hand stirring his 15th rum and Coke, clothes disheveled, hair all messed up from pulling it out, looking like he hasn't moved from that spot in 12 hours.

It feels like that.

That imagery reminded me of when I was a kid and worked as a lifeguard at a local pool/tennis club that had a men's club for all the old Italian guys.  One time our supervisor didn't show up so one of them let two of us in through their private entrance. It was like a scene out of Goodfellas; the full bar, decor, ashtrays, table of dudes still playing poker at 6:30....not one even looked up as we walked past.

These days my wife is always up early and makes good coffee so that helps.

Did any of them call you Spider and shoot you in the foot?

I completely agree with you!

Unless it gets me to London, or Munich or something. 😋 The wife is all in, but something seems to get in the way far too often.

I highly recommend Munich/Stuttgart if you can swing it.  Both excellent cities to spend time in.

Roger Goodell is simply a big fan of hearing Bavarians sing John Denver.
