The best scientific justification I can find is that it's sometimes caused by hormonal dysfunction in the brain that causes gender identity to be inconsistent with sexual characteristics.  Which used to be called "hormonal dysfunction."  And treated.

 

Now it's indulged, because "my hormones make me feel bad."

 

So yeah, a feels argument.
