Bucky Brooks suggests the Ravens should take Justin Fields, let Lamar Jackson “graduate”

Three years ago, the Ravens used the 32nd pick in round one on quarterback Lamar Jackson, who became the league’s MVP in only his second season. As Jackson inches toward his second contract, Bucky Brooks of NFL Media has an intriguing idea.

Brooks thinks the Ravens should at least consider drafting Jackson’s replacement, in Justin Fields.

I truly respect most of Bucky's takes, but this one :classic_laugh:.

He rates Lamar ahead of Josh and he wants the Ravens to draft his replacement after only three years?

I wonder what he thinks the Bills should do. On second thought, no I don't.

All 29 times NFL teams traded up to draft QB

23. Bills slide up for J.P. Losman (2004)

The trade: Buffalo sends its second-round pick (No. 43 overall), a fourth-round pick, a fifth-round pick and a 2005 first-round pick to Dallas for the Cowboys' first-round pick (No. 22 overall).

The skinny: Buffalo got fleeced. It swapped four draft picks for one, and Losman didn't pan out. He went 10-23 as a starter over his five seasons in Orchard Park.

3. Bills get Josh Allen (2018)

The trade: Buffalo sends its first-round pick (No. 12) and two second-round picks to Tampa Bay for the Buccaneers' first-round pick (No. 7).

The skinny: The Bills are coming off their first divisional title and playoff victory since 1995, and Allen has gotten better in each of his three seasons.

:applause:

I can't help but take a brief moment to wonder what kind of career Losman would have had if he was brought in and supported by Beane and McDermott.

That's not to say they would have drafted him, but rather what would have been if Losman was given the kind of support/talent around him/etc. that Allen has gotten...as opposed to "Here...let's make your first game one where we insert you into the middle of a *Patriots*-ass-whooping" where everyone on defense is tee'd up to beat the shit out of you!"

The ending... :nono:

I just have a feeling he isnt going to be as advertised. Kind of like the right Josh that became the wrong Josh. Seems real full of pride

“Knowing it’s the most important position in sports, and it’s great to have a guy that you do believe in and has gotten you to a Super Bowl. So you don’t have to put the weight of the world on a rookie, whoever it was we were going to choose. And now that we know Trey is here, you don’t have to put the weight of the world on that kid’s shoulders. And he can grow into that position.”

“And even if he (Lance) doesn’t play for two years, we still have an extra $100 million to put back into our team on top of whatever we would have for free agency for the next five years,” York said.

“It’s really an investment in the team of how do you want to build this thing.”
