I was about to respond "He could have held up."  But even if that were physically possible, he would have given up the TD.  It was a good hit to separate the receiver from the ball, and regardless of it being roughing or not was a good play.

 

An ejection for a good football play is just &#%$ing nonsense.

My biggest gripe with the Hamlin ejection is calling it unnecessary roughness. I get wanting to take hits to the head on defenseless receivers 

out of the game, but to me unnecessary roughness implies that it was late or didn’t effect the outcome of the play, and in this case  he would’ve had a good chance of catching that if not for the Hamlin hit, ergo the hit wasn’t unnecessary. Eject him if you want, but come up with a different name for the foul.
