I appreciate what this poster is saying, but Vontae was interviewed an entire year later, and said he knew what he was doing, had no regrets, and remained happy with his choices.

There comes a time when we can't just automatically assume that someone earning millions upon millions of dollars to play a sport is enduring anything other than trying to exist in the face of adversity without a proper upbringing that keeps you grounded.

Dead or not, it was an embarrassing thing to be done by any professional athlete who wasn't laying on the field next to their lower intestines.

I agree...not all decisions are signs of mental illness.

It was just the best tweet I could find at the moment.  Most were much more unkind to Vontae.  (At the time.  Now, everyone's being kinder.)

He and Vernon Davis (along with

several brothers and sisters) were raised by his grandmother.

Apparently mom and dad weren't parent worthy.

The parents were both drug addicts and the grandmother adopted the children when they were going to be split up into foster homes, she wanted to keep the siblings together.

That grandmother is a selfless hero.
