BILLS @ Bears, Pre-season game #2: The Aftermath

I doubt Fields ever amounts to much. His physical attributes and dual threat ability may lend him enough success to hang around the league for a while, but I'll be shocked if he's ever considered a top 15 QB.

He's got elite talent, but not where it matters most - between the ears. He's a one read QB with poor pocket awareness. That rarely translates to NFL success. The only reason nobody says this out loud is because of his complexion. Criticizing a black QB is inherently racist.

I'm watching it now...Jim Miller is fat as &#%$.  Damn dude.

I was commenting to my wife about that the other night. He looks like he ate his offensive line for lunch.

For what it's worth, it also felt like wanted to be critical of Fields, but knew better than to open his yap outside his airtime with Pat Kirwan.

Am I missing something ?

Why are the fines such an odd amount ?

When they negotiate the CBA between the league and NFLPA, they're set at a base that's usually a round number.  Then they increase by a percentage year after year, which ends up with the fines being odd amounts.

2021 Schedule of Fines is here:  https://operations.nfl.com/inside-football-ops/rules-enforcement/accountability-fines-appeals/

Those fines can vary by +/-20% or more, though, based on the circumstances.  Plus...the league makes it up as they go along, of course (see also their BS COVID "policy.")  I don't know where the NFL got that $5,806 amount they fined Smith...best guess is it's 10% of his game salary cap hit (which is the lesser of that, and the $15k fine for hitting a defenseless player), plus an arbitrary increase ("up to 5%") for an "intentional hit."  Both of which - the "10% of prorated cap hit per game" and "up to 5% for intentional hit" are in the current CBA.

Basically, it's arcane and silly.
