What impressed me most about the 2 point play was that early in the season it seemed the book on Josh was that he had trouble rolling to his left, and it seemed like it worked for the teams that were able to get him to go that way. Now here here he is in the biggest game of the season rolling left and throwing an absolute dart to the back of the end zone. Diggs also made a great play on the ball, as it was behind him a bit.

I had to laugh the other day because on the Eisen show they were talking about JA's improvement since his rookie season when he was "terrible".  It ignores the fact that there were literally NINE different starters in year 2 and that of the 9 players jettisoned, only Zay Jones has done a damn thing in the NFL.  Allen wasn't NFL ready and there is plenty of evidence of guys who never overcame their early struggles...but anyone who watched that season saw how &#%$ing competitive the guy is.

Great players make big plays when it matters.  The more great players you have, the better chance you have of winning big games.

It's impossible to watch that game again. But Josh was a freaking highlight reel, and I don't mind watching some of the TD throws broken down on social media by the usual suspects.

As a Bills fan I’ve become a connoisseur of bad offensive line play. The offensive line the Bills fielded Josh’s rookie year may have been the worst in Bills franchise history.

Then you look at his receiving targets. His #1 WR was Kelvin Benjamin. #2 was Andre Holmes. Two absolutely terrible players, both of whom are now out of the league. Zay Jones was the #3. He’s doing useful stuff now, but was a bad player as a rookie.

During the offseason the plan had been for Nate Peterman to be the starter. The starter’s snaps in training camp were given to Peterman, not to Allen. So, you’re basically making a rookie QB into the starter, beginning partway through game 1, without giving him the benefit of those snaps.

It’s very difficult to think of anything else the Bills could possibly have done to set Allen up to fail his rookie year.

It should have been unsportsmanlike penalty.

I'm glad it wasn't. I hate that rule. Don't let a great game like that be ruined for no reason.

Allen saved McDermott's career. He also covers up a loooot of draft/FA mistakes.

Marquee players do that all the time on all teams over time.  That is just how things go.  No team will have All Pros at every starting position.  Marino extended Shula's career by the better part of two decades as a more extreme example.  Lawrence Taylor almost single-handedly was the Giants defense leading up to their first SB and put Parcells on the map.  Parcells was in danger of being fired prior to that season.

No coach wins without players.  Period.

A person could spend a lot of time and treasure trying to decipher what drives you to follow and team and sport that consistently makes you so miserable. :classic_laugh:
