Don't know much about vinyl chloride, except that it's no joke.

 

Know quite a bit about phosgene.  Created in small amounts when you burn vinyl chloride.  Also, a chemical weapon used in World War 1, and dangerous enough that it's illegal to transport in large quantities.  So can't wait for those "US illegally transporting banned chemical weapons" conspiracy theories to start.

So, the reports of "reporters being arrested for covering the train crash" seems to be a bunch of garbage, if you see that floating around. I finally found a video that showed what happened before the one posted upthread of the arrest:

 

 

Being loud during the governors press conference (which this clip is still to late to show him doing), get told to leave, get louder, refuse to leave, get told to leave again, refuse again, is what got him arrested. I like how he threw in a "this is what it's like to be a black reporter in 2023" at the end of the clip, while the black, obviously white supremacist, officer looks on. Oh, and he got out of jail almost immediately. Oh, and other reporters were also there and somehow managed to not get arrested. There's lots to be angry at regarding this entire situation, but being angry about something so demonstrably false is insane, which is where a lot of conspiracy Twitter seems to be right now, since most everyone just runs with a one liner, without knowing what actually occurred.

Yeah I guess it is, and a good side effect would be destruction of evidence, not that anyone would be prosecuted for it anyway

The only evidence they're destroying is that they were carrying vinyl chloride...which is already known.  

 

And if they didn't burn it off, the resulting explosion would destroy far more evidence than not doing so.

Again...that's why they're burning it off.  A flammable liquid with that low a boiling point carries a very dangerous risk of explosion.  In terms of explosiveness, this is roughly as powerful as propane vapor.

 

(In terms of toxicity, it's far worse than propane.)

Y'know, @TakeYouToTasker 2.0, it's really unbelievable right now that a quick look at Fox, ABC and NBC news websites literally have nothing about what's happening in Ohio.

 

And not much more about 35,000 dead in Turkey and Syria from the earthquakes.
