'The people want answers!' Furious mayor tears into Ohio rail crash company Norfolk Southern as it runs scared of East Palestine town hall meeting because officials 'were afraid for their safety' - as state now threatens to sue

Rail company Norfolk Southern ran scared of a town hall meeting in East Palestinetonight because officials 'were afraid for their safety' following the chemical train derailment disaster.

Representatives were due to attend to help explain what happened and how they could repair the devastation - and soothe fears of potential long term health problems including cancer.

But the town's mayor Trent Conaway revealed just before the packed meeting at the local high school: 'The people want answers. I want answers.

'Norfolk Southern didn't show up.'

I’m sure mayor Pete was there though.  Right?

Biden admin turns down Ohio's request for disaster assistance after toxic derailment

'FEMA continues to tell Governor DeWine that Ohio is not eligible for assistance,' governor's office says

The Biden administration turned down a request for federal disaster assistance from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine in the aftermath of the train derailment in the state earlier this month that led to a large release of toxic chemicals.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) told Ohio's state government that it was not eligible for disaster assistance to help the community recover from the toxic spill, Dan Tierney, a spokesperson for DeWine, told Fox News Digital on Thursday. Tierney explained that FEMA believed the incident didn't qualify as a traditional disaster, such as a tornado or hurricane, for which it usually provides assistance.

"The DeWine Administration has been in daily contact with FEMA to discuss the need for federal support, however FEMA continues to tell Governor DeWine that Ohio is not eligible for assistance at this time," DeWine's office said in a statement earlier in the day. "Governor DeWine will continue working with FEMA to determine what assistance can be provided."

White House explains why it turned down disaster relief for Ohio
Biden administration official: 'What East Palestine needs is much more expansive than what FEMA can provide'

</snip>

"The Biden Administration is mobilizing a robust, multi-agency effort to support the people of East Palestine, Ohio. Since February 3, the Environmental Protection Agency has had personnel on the ground," the official told Fox News Digital. "FEMA is coordinating with the emergency operations center working closely with the Ohio Emergency Management Agency."

"But what East Palestine needs is much more expansive than what FEMA can provide," they continued. "FEMA is on the frontlines when there is a hurricane or tornado. This situation is different."

What the &#%$, now FEMA only provides assistance for natural disasters?  What's changed since they provided $130M to NYC after 9/11?

Some asshat was on CNBC this morning, too, claiming that the administration's response has been timely and effective, because it was really Norfolk Southern's responsibility to provide disaster relief to East Palestine, and they dropped the ball in not responding until late (never mind that they've been there since the beginning).

And the governor of Pennsylvania is complaining that Norfolk Southern didn't coordinate with PA state emergency responders...over an incident that took place in Ohio?

Norfolk Southern deserves to be reamed for this - they're probably looking at something on the order of two billion dollars in fines, I'd expect.  But they're still going to get unfairly reamed, with all the ridiculous finger-pointing going on.

A lot of people are supposing this is the real reason. If so, that is Obama-level pettiness and vindictiveness and may give insight on who is running the White House. (not Obama, whoever was behind Obama)

Maybe, maybe not.

But it should be pointed out that FEMA provided aid to Boston for the Boston Marathon Bombing, and to Flint, Michigan for the water crisis.  And through the International Assistance System has provided more aid to Ukraine than to East Palestine.

what a coincidence -

a disaster to test the myID system

https://www.investmentwatchblog.com/what-are-the-odds-all-4700-residents-of-east-palistine-were-set-to-receive-myid-medical-monitoring-devices-a-week-before-the-derailment/

What are the odds? All 4700 residents of East Palistine were set to receive MyID medical monitoring devices a week before the derailment

https://boxden.com/showthread.php?t=3219213

“It gives us that rapid information that we may need should somebody be unresponsive or having some kind of medical emergency,” said East Palestine Fire Chief Keith Drabick.

MyID provides wearable devices or key FOBs that have QR codes. Emergency responders use a camera phone to access important medical information. It shows them the underlying medical conditions people have supplied about allergies, medications and emergency contacts. That information could impact treatment decisions if a person can’t say it

Actually, 250 people were being offered the chance to wear a non-electronic tag with a QR code instead of a traditional medical bracelet.

Actually, reading the articles before you post them is super easy, barely an inconvenience.
