That's not the only good news today.  In practice, Clifton and Samuelsson were flipped from the pairings they went with the last 2 preseason games.

 

Samuelsson - Dahlin

Power - Jokiharju

Clifton - Johnson

 

Would still like to eventually see Clifton get some time with Power so Henri can slide to 3rd pairing; but those should work way better than the pairings worked with Clifton and Dahlin together.  

 

Like this swap because now Clifton can get acclimated without facing other team's top lines all the time.  After he's comfortable, bump him up.  But for now, they need to win games and Clifton Dahlin wouldn't help in those efforts.

 

The real bullets start flying on Thursday vs the Rags.  (Might've said in prior posts that they open on the Island on Wednesday.  No idea where that idea came from.  They're on the Island on Saturday, NOT tomorrow.  Oops.)

Power signed a 7 year deal.  He's now locked up for the next 8 years.  He has a 5 team NMC in the final 2 years of the deal.

 

Mittelstadt would appear to be next up on the list of guys to try to extend.  (With Krebs and Jokiharju sometime after that, likely next summer.  All 3 are RFA's next year.)

We're signing players going into their prime to good contracts.  Teams like Winnipeg are signing 30-somethings to similar deals.  What a time to be  Sabres' fan.
