We may want the Chargers to beat the Raiders tonight so that Brandon Staley doesn’t get fired before playing the Bills next weekend. An interim head coach (Kellen Moore?) would have a mini-bye to prepare for the Bills plus the benefit of an immediate emotional boost from the team (a phenomenon that interim head coaches typically enjoy during their first game or two).

 

We want the Bucs to beat the Packers due to strength of schedule/victory. We want the Giants to beat the Saints for the same reason.

 

We want the 49ers to beat the Cardinals because we don’t want the Pats to get a better draft pick than the Cards. We want the Falcons to beat the Panthers for the same reason.

 

I think we want the Ravens to beat the Jags because it’s most favorable to concede the first AFC playoff seed to the Ravens (as opposed to the Dolphins or Chiefs…ugh…). The Jags are looking much more vulnerable to falling behind the Texans or Colts, compared to the Ravens falling behind the Browns. It’s a safe assumption that the Bills will lose every wildcard tiebreaker scenario, so the emphasis should just be on finishing the season ahead of 9 AFC teams. The 7-6 Bills are much more likely to leapfrog the 8-5 Jags than they are the 10-3 Ravens.

Good call.  This is exactly right and we saw this happen with the Raiders earlier this year, winning big in Pierce's debut.

Whelp, so much for wishful thinking!

 

However, San Diego looks like a completely broken team, and with an 1-AA QB who's been sitting on the bench for five years.  Bills ought to beat them by 30 no matter who is coaching.

BUF wins 2

AND Week 16

CLE over HOU (at HOU)

PIT over CIN (at PIT)

NE over DEN (at DEN)

Week 17

TEN over HOU (at HOU)

SEA over PIT (at SEA)

KC over CIN (at KC)

 

Not impossible, but don't hold your breath.

Obviously winning out is preferred, but the wildcard is pretty treacherous if you assume they finish 10-7.

 

Any loss for Denver is key.

Cleveland beating Houston next week is key.

Cincy losing 2 of 3 against Pitts/KC/Cleveland is key.

 

Titans blowing that game yesterday hurts.
