According to this site, they were third after the Texans and Bears. So at the least, why didn't the Texans take the flyer.

They're going to have the first pick in the draft.  There's little reason to bother with Mayfield and the baggage that comes with him.

The only place I think the Niners were interested was the funny papers.  Mayfield isn't a Shanahan type of guy.
