Hopefully the Raiders are looking elsewhere than our Coordinators.

Bunch of top-shelf coordinators in the league typing up controversial racist emails right now hoping it keeps them out of Vegas...

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/10/27/nfl-updates-rooney-rule-hiring-cycle-timeline/

Clubs with a head coaching opening now are allowed to conduct virtual interviews with candidates during the final two weeks of the regular season. The employer club must consent to the interview.

That is opposite of what the Bills had proposed. The Bills wanted the hiring cycle for head coaches pushed back, theoretically giving assistant coaches on playoff teams a better chance of securing a head coaching job. That proposal went nowhere.

Starting with this hiring cycle, clubs must now interview two external minority candidates for all G.M. and coordinator jobs. That mirrors the requirement for head coach hirings.

From the Athletic (paid site)

What makes Bills GM Brandon Beane the NFL’s top executive at midseason

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane is The Athletic’s choice as the NFL’s top executive at the midpoint of this 2021 season, based on voting by our national writers.

</snip>

From a team-building standpoint, a single executive rarely turns a terrible team into an excellent one in a single offseason. Beane has joined Bills coach Sean McDermott to lead a steady rise over multiple seasons, helped along by a series of recent moves that might help put Buffalo over the top:

  • Re-signing QB Josh Allen
  • Re-signing LB Matt Milano
  • Keeping key role players
  • Drafting Rousseau
  • Supplementing Diggs
  • Scooping up Trubisky

The Bills were among the NFL’s least successful franchises before McDermott and Beane were hired in 2017. The team had not reached the playoffs since 1999, with only two winning seasons, both with 9-7 records, during that nearly two-decade span.

God bless Ralph but the change in ownership was key.  Not sure if McD and Beane could have made their accomplishments with the old guard still in charge.  Especially if true that Ralph meddled during the draft most years.   The Pegula's for the most part have chalked up winning seasons since they bought the Bills several years ago.  Such a pattern was rare during the Wilson days.

100% correct.  Ralph was a mostly terrible owner who did a few good things over the years (propping up the AFL, not moving the team, etc.).

Most of BILLS' history was mediocrity followed by small pockets of moderate success.  Every time they started making progress, Ralph would do something to torpedo it and restart the downward spiral.

A lot of years we were worse than mediocre.  It has been said that during the 1970's Ralph had a very heavy hand in the draft forcing picks based on signability (cheap deals).  Then there was the reactionary period after Donahoe.   I don't think that Beane gets the free hand to wheel and deal to have the pick necessary for Allen with Ralph standing in the room.

matter of time before those players are jettisoned

there is a reason why the Bills are very selective in the players they sign

and why they may not chase the "best" talent

for example- Aaron  Rodgers would never be the QB in Buffalo

how would the Bills front have handled the covid prima donna?

IMO, Daboll will get fired before he gets a HC job.  Who in their right mind would hire Daboll, or Frazier?

🤷‍♀️ But they are "always" getting HC gigs according to Bills Mafia and the newsies.

The way players talk about Daboll makes him seem a more likely candidate but his "presentation" will likely continue to hold him back.

Frazier has already failed as a HC.  I don't know how his defense is looked at inside NFL circles but I wouldn't even consider him for the top job on my football team based on what we've watched since he's been in Buffalo.

Belichick was a GREAT coordinator.  His game plans against the Niners and BILLS in 1991 are all anyone ever needs to watch to see that.

How many of us were hoping Texans would hire Frazier?

I was his biggest cheerleader on that.  From a personal perspective, he comes across as a really great guy.  I just HATE this style of defense and think it makes winning big games against good teams more difficult.

Rooney Rule candidate.  I doubt the Texans were serious about hiring Frazier.

🖐️

We would have gotten the elusive comp pick and I believe the defense would be fine under McD's watch.
