Caps played in Filly tonight with both clinging to playoff hopes.  Any win at all put the Caps in the playoffs; a regulation win along with a Detroit loss and IIRC a Pens loss as well would give the Phlyers the 8th seed.  An OT or SO win was the same as a loss to the Phlyers.

So, with about 6 minutes to go, and the score tied 1-1, Tortorella pulled his goalie and the Caps scored to go up 2-1.

Detroit was down 4-3 in Moe-ray-all with 7 seconds left and a faceoff in the Habs end and scored on a point shot with 3.3 seconds left.  They eventually won in a SO.  But thanks to that EN goal in Filly, there was no joy in Mudville with the W.  They are this year's Sabres.  91 points and 9th place in the conference.  They have now missed the playoffs 8 consecutive seasons and have missed the playoffs every year since moving out of Joe Lewis Arena for their new digs.

So, yes, the Sabres are on year 13 and counting; but Detroit is 5 years shy of that mark and the Otters are 6 years shy.  (Gary Bettman, hold off on expanding the league for at least 5 more years so the playoff pool doesn't get expanded before somebody at least ties the Sabres futility mark.  Please.)
