Does it make sense for the government to pay the majority of the cost for a new stadium? That all depends on whether Buffalo wants to keep the Bills. If Pegula can’t get a mostly paid for stadium in Buffalo, odds are he can find a different city which will give him one. While I agree that the government shouldn’t be using tax money to subsidize NFL player millionaires or owner billionaires, the place to stop that nonsense is at the federal level. If state and local governments are allowed to subsidize professional sports teams, there will always some which will subsidize. You don’t want to see cities which don’t subsidize lose their sports teams to those that do.

Not okay for the NFL or other major sports leagues to use that desire to extort money from taxpayers. The middle class has zero responsibility to subsidize millionaires or billionaires. The way to stop that is to make it illegal at the federal level for communities to subsidize stadiums or other facilities for any of the big four sports leagues. Most of Washington is inhabited by lawyers who run on billable hours. Stadium issues can generate lots of billable hours.

The federal government doesn't have the authority to regulate commerce at the local level within a state. Now if the NFL can be defined in the context of interstate commerce, that is a different argument. Fansince88
I wonder, how many tax dollars does a Sunday in OP bring to the county? it may be Bills home Staduim but who stands to make the most money. Foxx
NYS is giving $1billion and the NFL is giving $200 million. Kim and Terry are going to have to come up with $200 to $300 million. That shouldn't be a problem with PSL's being considered.

Fansince88
This is an old article but is telling: https://www.investigativepost.org/2021/12/13/little-economic-benefit-from-new-stadium/#:~:text=Modest returns,by players%2C coaches and staff. A study commissioned by the state and conducted by the private consulting firm AECOM found that the Bills generate more than $25 million a year in various taxes. The bulk of that money — $19.5 million — is state income tax paid by players, coaches and staff. This said, in todays money I would imagine that is 2x over the above totals. Point is, for those that say state and county should not contribute, then they should not reap reward.
