Flores Suing NFL and NYG; Charges Racism

I just don't see this thing getting legs. He tried to go full Kaepernick, but Kapernick's situation was completely different. He was a well known player with a big fan base before his antics started, and his situation grew incrementally over a period of a couple of years before he went nuclear, and his "cause" was focused exclusively on the oppressed black man narrative. Flores misses on all fronts.

A month ago most people had no idea who Brian Flores was. I didn't even know he was black until after he got fired, and I follow the NFL.  Then, out of the blue, he goes scorched earth two weeks after getting fired following a 9 and 8 season.

But the biggest flaw Is the internal inconsistency of his charge itself. He starts off by giving a race neutral reason for his release, claiming that he was instructed to lose for better draft placement, and refused to go along. That's in addition to the inescapable fact that the team that fired him also hired him, presumably knowing he was black.

Then he turns around and starts crying racial discrimination without  any attempt to connect the dots, and with no additional evidence whatsoever. As easy as it is to sell racial discrimination to the American media today, in this case the attempt to exploit the race issue is just too transparent.

With Kaepernick, it's easy to see how he hijacked his own career and it appears he tactfully and intentionally prevented himself from getting another NFL quarterback job by subtle means while claiming to want one so that he could work the victim angle and gain support. But  If you're inclined to believe that sort of thing, his position seems plausible. You don't have to do olympic level mental gymnastics to get there. But to get on board with Flores you have to intentionally and actively shield your eyes from the bright light of reason.

The black sports pundits like Stephen A and Shannon Sharp give lip service to the "courage" of Brian Flores to stand up, but there's absolutely no conviction in the voices of these men who get off on being melodramatic and passionate when discussing topics that are not even of great import, much less those near and dear to their hearts.  They sound like they're going through the obligatory motions so as to appease their corporate sponsors and maintain their black street cred with the (mostly white) woke crowd.  If you can't get those guys behind this, good luck with the rest of America.

John McClain:

Reading this article, he does not connect to the dots to the lawsuit at all. He does connect the dots to "Houston, we have a problem!" and Lovie Smith already being there, knowing the issues, and being a steady hand, however.

McClain: Why Texans turned to Lovie Smith as head coach

Smith, the associate head coach/defensive coordinator last season under David Culley, was the seventh and last candidate Caserio interviewed, and he was hired the same day.

Fans howled about Caserio hiring a coach with no college or pro coaching experience, and now the Texans have one with 38 years of experience, including 20 in the NFL.

The Texans were set to hire Josh McCown as Culley’s replacement, but they called an audible after one of their finalists, Brian Flores, filed a lawsuit against the NFL charging, among other things, racial discrimination in the league’s hiring and firing practices.

</snip>

There were reports McCown turned down the job, which isn’t true. Although he’ll never admit it, Caserio changed his mind. And the general manager has it in his six-year contract that he gets final say. The McNair family approved his pivot from McCown to Smith.

Smith will work closely with Caserio on all personnel matters, including the coaching staff and roster.

For a rebuilding team suffering through so much turmoil, Smith will bring an experienced, steady hand to the Texans.

That's a great message to send.

Hey, let's bitch about race in a commercial for the Winter Olympics held in China, for &#%$'s sake.  :wallbash:

A writer I like, Georges Bernanos, once wrote that one of the first things he'd like to ask God on the other side is "why so many imbeciles?"

As usual, Rob nails it above.  Kaepernick was already a highly visible player before his kneeling controversy started.  No one gives a rats ass about the head coach unless he's Belichick (and even then).  Flores is a nobody.  Outrage needs the media talking heads to get it going, but it requires attention from John Q Public to sustain.  And once the Super Bowl is over, the public stops caring about football.  Those of us who pay attention to football year round make up a very small % of the overall population.

So unless there's a dead body or video of police/Roger Goodell beating the crap out of Flores, no one outside NFL circles really cares.

NFL circles...and SJW circles.  And don't underestimate the power of loud busybody media darlings.

Bill Belichick texts the wrong Brian. Result: a major lawsuit, lots of media drama and lies, and a 13 page thread on this site!

Thanks, Bill.

Belichick knew what he was doing.  He just wanted to stir the pot.

Next up:  Flores suing the NFL because no team will hire him.

Jesus Christ, dude.

Idk, he did a good job in the middle of an insane situation. I really don't care what it takes to get the cancer out, even if the change is racism.

Not only that, but look at Anthony Lynn, too. I'm not 100% sure Flores doesn't have a huge point. Seriously, the Lynn firing was worse, IMO.

Lynn was a terrible game day coach.  His decision-making and clock management were among the worst imaginable for a coach with a winning record.  His tenure started strong but when you go 5-11 right after a 12-4 season, you aren't going to get much more rope.

Flores had back-to-back seasons where his team needed to compete in a big game on the road against a playoff team.  In both games, his teams not only appeared ill prepared but got physically manhandled.  That's a trend that would make any lucid owner take notice and has precisely dick to do with the color of his skin.

The idea that Flores did some wonderful job turning around the Fish is laughable.

His team was a popular preseason wild card pick and he went out and lost 7 in a row.  He should have been fired on Halloween.

13 - 8 with Tua as starter?

That alone made him an overachiever to me. Still, you can’t have your teams run for the bus in big game situations, and you have to figure out a way to beat Josh and the Bills, otherwise, you get fired.

There are times when a head coach is sacrificed to atone for a GM’s sins. The Miami GM’s sin was taking Tua instead of Justin Herbert. Someone had to take the fall for that. It’s so very easy for a GM to argue that the player is not the problem. The player would do just fine, if only he had better coaching. If the owner is gullible enough to listen to that, then it’s the coach, not the GM, who ends up getting canned.

Miami’s GM is black. This means that Khan fired one black man who probably didn’t deserve to be fired (Flores) while failing to fire a different black man who most certainly did (the GM). Why would an owner make such a mistake? His own wishful thinking. I’m sure it would make the Dolphins owner very happy if “good coaching” was a magic elixir which could somehow make Tua at least as good as Herbert. Much easier and faster to replace a head coach than to find a new GM + a new QB.

White head coaches periodically get fired to atone for a GM’s sins. When that happens people shrug their shoulders and move on. But when the same thing happens to a black head coach, it must automatically be about race. Were the Dolphins unaware of Flores’ race when they hired him in the first place?

The Jaguars owner fired the Dolphins coach(?). Huh, I knew Ross was a bit spineless but...
