Of course the DOJ is going to appeal the special master decision. Talking heads will say it's the right thing to do in order to speed up the prosecution of Trump, but we know it's to cover up for all the stuff they took illegally and this just puts an exclamation mark on the need for one

Anyone seen details about these 35 raids he claimed?

I read it was subpoenas, but who knows, this could be true. They are desperately trying to take out Trump, his PAC, and anything and anyone close to him.

Prayers for Jonathan Turley After His Definitive Takedown of Hillary’s Latest ‘but My Emails’ Defense

But Hillary Clinton’s suggestion of a “Clinton Standard” caught the attention of Georgetown University law professor Jonathan Turley, who wrote perhaps what is the definitive takedown of her latest “but my emails” defense and pointed out that there is indeed a “Clinton Standard,” but that it’s not the one she wants people to think it is:

A 2018 Department of Justice inspector general report revealed “81 email chains containing approximately 193 individual emails” were “classified from the CONFIDENTIAL to TOP SECRET levels at the time.” Clinton is echoing her allies’ recent spin that there were only three documents with classification markings among 33,000 emails. It is utter nonsense.

[…]

Nevertheless, the emails had classified information, including top-secret information tied to “Special Access Programs.” Yet some allies emphasize the inspector general also noted that in some cases there was “conscious effort to avoid sending classified information, by writing around the most sensitive material.” It failed. The emails still contained classified information.

That’s why she was reckless to use her own server: Such mistakes on private servers are more vulnerable to capture by foreign intelligence services. Indeed, according to the FBI, “hostile actors gained access” to some of the information through the emails of Clinton’s associates and aides.

As to her claims about Comey “admitting” he was wrong:

It’s not clear what Hillary is referencing here. But Comey never said there was no classified information in her emails — he said the opposite. He condemned her handling of the classified material while saying it didn’t warrant prosecution.

Comey did backtrack later, but not on this point. He said his “mistake” was in how he described her conduct: “I should’ve worked harder to find a way to convey that it’s more than just the ordinary mistake, but it’s not criminal behavior, and find different words to describe that.”

And on the “Clinton Standard” – it’s a double standard, as we all know, and which Turley emphasized in his write-up.

Not political at all...

Two Top Trump Political Aides Among Those Subpoenaed in Jan. 6 Case
Stephen Miller, a senior policy adviser, and Brian Jack, who served as White House political director, are among those who received requests for information this week from a federal grand jury.

</snip>

Brian Jack, the final White House political director under Mr. Trump, and Stephen Miller, Mr. Trump’s top speechwriter and a senior policy adviser, were among more than a dozen people connected to the former president to receive subpoenas from a federal grand jury this week.

The subpoenas seek information in connection with the Save America political action committee and the plan to submit slates of electors pledged to Mr. Trump from swing states that were won by Joseph R. Biden Jr. in the 2020 election. Mr. Trump and his allies promoted the idea that competing slates of electors would justify blocking or delaying certification of Mr. Biden’s Electoral College win during a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6, 2021.

Trump Response to Stay Motion: Special Master Needed, Feds Trying “to skip the process and proceed straight to a preordained conclusion”

</snip>

The Response provides, in part:

This investigation of the 45th President of the United States is both unprecedented and misguided. In what at its core is a document storage dispute that has spiraled out of control, the Government wrongfully seeks to criminalize the possession by the 45th President of his own Presidential and personal records. By way of its Motion [ECF No. 69], the Government now seeks to limit the scope of any review of its investigative conduct and presuppose the outcome, at least as regards to what it deems are “classified records.” However, the Court’s Order [ECF No. 64] is a sensible preliminary step towards restoring order from chaos. The Government should therefore not be permitted to skip the process and proceed straight to a preordained conclusion.

One of the people who was raided:

My wife's cousin attended the J6 rally with her teenage son. They were just two more faces in a sea of faces, never really was near the Capitol, and drove home to Texas the next day.

A week later her son mentions in passing to a girlfriend of his that they were at the rally, and 24-hours later the FBI were on her door because the kids' girlfriend reported them to the FBI.

Ultimately nothing came of the visit, but nothing HAS to come of the visit to create the intimidation this administration wants.

Scary times if you want to speak out.

More than likely the agents were annoyed at having to do that, rather than spend time on real work.

This happened not long after the event...like two weeks later.

I think if the girlfriend snitched on him now, there would likely be a more difficult result given the hundreds of people they've arrested over this. Last I heard the number was at 600 or so.

But, y'know, they're worse than Al Queda, so I guess it makes sense to arrest all the moms.

Yeah.  I've worked with enough federal workers to know that they're not mindless drones.  They recognize ridiculous directions.
