Charles Grodin, best known for the neurotic comic wit he demonstrated in such films as “The Heartbreak Kid,” “Heaven Can Wait” and “Midnight Run” and for his role in the “Beethoven” movies, died Tuesday at his home in Connecticut. He was 86.

 

The New York Times reported that his son said he died of bone marrow cancer.

I can't think of anyone who was funnier doing deadpan comedy. Heaven Can Wait and Midnight Run are both on my list of most entertaining movies.  I even liked his short-lived talk show.    RIP

I remember reading something a long time ago that his role on Deliverance messed with his mind so much that in later years when crew members or extras on his projects said "Squeal like a pig", he would have them removed.
