It's probably going to be hard for VM40 to change his mindset but the BILLS are on the right path here.

Bills Defensive Tackle Ed Oliver addresses the media following Training Camp Practice on Monday, August 1st. Topics include: playing alongside Linebacker Von Miller, how it’s nice to have Miller’s veteran presence, the growth of the entire Defensive front through this off-season, what he thinks the defense can improve upon after a strong season last year, why the team has adjusted to the moniker of “Find a Way,” and how he has worked on his craft this off-season.

Fastest over the LOS doesn't mean you're not getting swallowed by linemen.

I'm looking forward to AJE stepping up, especially since he's a more natural LDE and Miller/Rousseau are more effective from the opposite side.  It isn't a "make or break" year for him but it will be the first time since was drafted when things are really lined up for him to be successful.

So'm I.

If Ed Oliver has shown me anything, it's that you should give a DL three years to develop before you really judge him.

That's reasonable for most players, honestly.  Obviously the BILLS have been pretty terrible for most of the last 2 decades and the biggest reason was the lack of real development.  GMBB, the Pegulas, HCSMcD and the staff all deserve a ton of credit for putting together a program that's clearly working and getting guys to their ceiling.  The article the other day about Mitch Trubisky showed a glimpse of what really goes on at OBD and it's quite a change.

The howls over Moulds after his first two seasons always make me laugh.  It was pretty clear he had a ton of talent but needed some seasoning.  When he finally "got it" during his third year he just exploded and a lot of people looked very stupid.

Stability alone is quite a change.  Speaking of needing "three years"...since Marv Levy left, only McDermott and Dick &#%$ing Jauron have had coaching tenures longer than 3 years.

You're not developing players in three years when your coaching turnover is more frequent than that.

The Ringer article about Josh Allen/Ken Dorsey was basically a rehash of stuff we've talked about here with regard to the stability of this organization and how it relates to Allen's development versus his peers/all the high draft choice QBs of the modern era.

Having the right front office, coaching staff, and culture is just paramount and it's pretty much impossible to overcome even one missing piece of that puzzle (much less all of them, as we were during the drought years).
