A sixth isn't much. AD must not be happy about this.

He was originally a 7th round pick. 🤷‍♀️

PFF: Bills' Greg Rousseau has NFL's highest QB pressure rate

... The rookie defensive end’s play is opening eyes and turning heads among the media and NFL alike.

While his immediate productivity may come as a surprise to some, PFF actually predicted during their 2021 predraft analysis that the hype surrounding Rousseau would be warranted.

Considering he was second to only Chase Young in major stat categories during his final NCAA season with the University of Miami, Rousseau has the potential to progress towards becoming a starter in the NFL.

If he continues to play with this level of consistent productivity, regular season playing time in his position group rotation may come sooner than later.

That regular playing time could allow him to take those next steps towards achieving similar success at the pro level as well, which is something that Bills coaches, fans, and veterans like Bruce Smith and Andre Reed, would love to see.

And Basham has been not spectacular, but generally solid in his play.  He looks like he could develop in to the kind of player that could anchor a line - not the sort that you have to account for every play, but the sort that soaks up blockers and makes it difficult to account for everyone else on every play.

That's what BB does for the *Patriots* linebackers. They bring one in and the first thing they do is teach them all of the different LB positions. That makes them more versatile situationally because they know the responsibilities of each role.

I think it depends on his responsibility based on call/position.  I've seen him get tremendous penetration on a couple of 3 Tech plays.

'It's time for them to produce.' McDermott breaks down D-line, team as opener approaches

Talk is cheap, time to play

Bills rookie Greg Rousseau makes a move around Packer's lineman Ben Braden.

There has been a tremendous amount of copy written and sound bites produced regarding the overflow in the defensive line room.

Now that the Bills have decided to keep 11, which is at least one and perhaps two more than most teams keep, McDermott said, “It’s great that we have those options but now they gotta play. It’s time to buckle down and produce and that’s what we have to have from that unit.”

There are six edge rushers and five tackles, and not all of them will be active on game day. In fact, there could be two or three inactive each week, so the competition will remain fierce in practice, which is exactly how McDermott wants it.

“We have to have it from an overall team for sure, but they’re going to be a big factor in that,” he said. “Enough has been written about them. No more writing about the D-line, now it’s time for them to produce. And that’s why we’re here.”

Boogie Basham coming around

Boogie Basham (96), Greg Rousseau (50) and Efe Obada (93) all earned edge rusher spots.

One of those linemen, the second-round draft pick, had a rollercoaster of a summer. There were times when Basham flashed the way the Bills believed he would, but then there were times when he was somewhat invisible, but McDermott thinks he is starting to find his way.

“I think he’s competing, and I think his best football is ahead of him,” McDermott said which, given that he’s a rookie, better be true. “He’s working in two or three different positions, and he’s also contributing on special teams.”

That’s a different path than first-round pick Greg Rousseau who has been locked in as an edge rusher and isn’t playing special teams.

“It’s really interesting to look at it from that perspective because Greg is a little more in one position, if you will,” McDermott said. “Boogie is having to balance two or three or four positions which early on is gonna force him to process and think a little more. And once he gets through that he’ll play faster. I think he’s getting better every day.” ...

The Bills must stop the run if they are going to win a SuperBowl.

Teams will use BB’s SB XXV strategy against then - like Frank Reich did with the Colts in the playoffs last year.

The key to stopping the run is the middle.  If Edmunds and Star don't play MUCH better than they did in preseason game 3, we're in a lot of trouble against good teams.

Yup...this is exactly what I was thinking reading the Steelers pre-game thread.   Najee Harris should be in every FanDuel line up this weekend.
