Man, the PP and the goalie let em down tonight. By far, Tokarski worst game..maybe this is who he is and why he went 6 years between wins? The power play was atrocious. I think we managed less shots and quality scoring chances on our own powerplay than Boston managed while short handed. At one point this was true. Tage had an amazing opportunity to bury one as PP #13 on the night expired. Tokarksi proceeded to go full Hutton after Tage failed to convert. shrader
I really thought they were going to blow this one after Risto decided to shoot on his own net. That would have been an absolutely horrible outcome for a kid in his first start. Thank god for the ENG

Taro T
With Anaheim's SO win last night, the Sabres are on the verge of clinching Adams a dubious distinction held by both of his predecessors: GMing a team to dead last in his 1st season on the job. Both Anaheim & Buffalo have 2 games left. Anaheim has a 4 point lead and right now Buffalo is tied for RW with the Ducks (11 each), but trails ROW by multiple games (11 vs 15). A single point for the Ducks vs Minnesota or a single missed point by the Sabres vs the Pens clinches 31st overall for Buffalo & a top 3 draft pick. If Anaheim loses both in regulation AND Buffalo takes all 4 points with at least 1 of the 2 wins in regulation, then the Sabres get 30th via tie breaker & will draft top 4. So, Adams is locked into having the fewest points in the league in his rookie effort, but his squad may be declared 2nd worst, not worst. Winning both in OT &/or a SO leaves Buffalo in 31st. Vancouver could also be tied there when all is said & done, but they'd be 29th by tie breakers. They also have a bunch of games (9) remaining as they were shutdown for a couple of weeks like the Sabres & Devils, but their shutdown came much later in the year w/ less time to make up the games. Vancouver will almost definitely not wind up in a 3 way tie for last place. Edited May 6, 2021 by Taro T

Having said that, it's been a vastly different team in the last 20 than the previous 35 The 1st 10 games and these last 22 have for the most part been entertaining, though only 0.500-ish. The 2 week shutdown promptly followed by Ullmark breaking a week & a half later doomed the season. Was surprised at the timing of Krueger getting fired; had expected it either after the blown Phlyer game (4 games before he got canned) as that extended the winless streak to 8 & sounded to be an epic collapse (couldn't watch that particular 1); or expected it to happen after the scheduled 2 game set vs the Bruins (right after Krueger did get fired) as there was absolutely no way the team was going to beat the B's that weekend. On the road vs the Rags was a more winnable game. Don't know what the family issue is that kept Tokarski out of the last too games, truly hope it's not too serious, but without that the Sabres likely lose those last 2 games and the whole vibe coming out of this year is completely different. (They will now finish 2-2 in their last 4 in a worst case and could actually be over 0.500 for the last 4 game segment. They were looking at possibly ending the year on a 1-10 run without those 2 comeback wins.) Now, the Sabres beat every opponent at least once and they likely were the difference in the Aisles finishing in 4th rather than 3rd. (Not that that really matters, but it is a feather in their caps.)

snafu
If Eichel wants out then he should go to management and not the press -- or let his agent do the talking for him. At 24 years old and 5 years into the league he should know better than to flap his gums. Not my favorite player and he's not making it any easier to change my mind. He's no leader, that's for sure. What about anyone else (probably everyone else) on the team that feels the same way as Eichel, but has the good sense to keep his mouth shut? He's going to set the example? If Adams can fleece some other team, then the Sabres should pull the trigger on a trade. It's just that Adams has no experience and isn't likely to get the trade right. Hypothetical question: If Adams got less in return but included Skinner in a trade with Eichel, would that be acceptable?
