Moronic story.  That's not a "flaw," that's a design trade-off.  It allows the Russians to make smaller tanks that are easier to hide, harder to hit, and have a better power-weight ratio than other diesel-powered tanks.

 

It's also fairly common to stow rounds in racks in the turret or around (near) the turret ring.  The M-60 and Chieftain tanks had similar ammo storage to the T-72.  One of the big innovations of the M-1 Abrams was stowing ammo in a rack in the bustle of the turret, equipped with blow-out panels to vent an explosion outward - the Abrams was basically the first tank ever designed not to have the turret go flying like a champagne cork when the ammo stowage was hit.

Seriously, modern cosmology is a complete mess after the Hubble space telescope and discovery of "dark energy."  Cosmological theory needs a drastic overhaul.  There's no way the current state of theory is predicting anything definitive.
