Perhaps this was why the sudden about face by Twitter's board. Can't get your way, toss it to government oversight.

Hard to take an article seriously which bemoans Musk exaggerating by claiming "children are immune to COVID" when the article undersells the significance of how 'children catch COVID but at lower rates than adults' when children catch it at significantly lower levels than adults & then have significantly fewer negative outcomes than adults.

Heck, had Musk said something like that 3 years ago when progressives still loved him a statement like that would've been considered somewhat/mostly true rather than an outright falsehood.

All their bluster for nothing.

The next few months should be something to behold.

Court ruling

N.Y.'s top court tosses congressional map over Democratic gerrymandering

New York’s top court invalidated the state’s congressional map on Wednesday, ruling that Democrats' redistricting process and resulting maps violated the state Constitution.

The 4-3 decision is a blow to Democrats who would have won three additional seats in the U.S. House based on the political boundary lines and is likely to help Republicans secure a modest lead in national redistricting.

The court, which also invalidated the state Senate map, said in its ruling that the state's June 28 primary will "likely" need to be moved and suggested the lower court work with election officials to plan an August primary.

FCC commissioner responds to request to block Musk from buying Twitter:

Yesterday, the Open Markets Institute issued a release that called for the FCC, FTC, and DOJ to block Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter.  They argue that the transaction poses a “direct threat to American democracy and free speech.”  And their release cites to the Telegraph Act of 1860, among other statutory authorities, in the context of arguing that these federal agencies have authority to block the deal.

Commissioner Carr issued the following statement in response:

“The FCC has no authority to block Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, and to suggest otherwise is absurd.  I would welcome the full FCC making it clear that we will not entertain these types of frivolous arguments.”

Ministry of Truth to be sued.

Whoever thought setting this up was a good idea is nuts.

My understanding is that the Ministry of Truth is to act solely as a fact check operation and not an arbiter of information, opinion or supposed statement of fact(s).

Perhaps my understanding is wrong(?).

Reading more today, the board has no power. Apparently, it is in place to get Hispanics back-in-line for daring to vote Republican:

</snip>

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas did not disclose any powers that would be granted to the dystopian-sounding board while addressing lawmakers on Wednesday.

He explained that the board would work to tackle disinformation ahead of the November midterms, particularly in Hispanic communities.

But Mayorkas did say that the new board would come under the Biden-era Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3), meaning it would have no powers to crack down on disinformation and will instead try to combat it by throwing money at what it sees as problems.

That's the first I've heard of the CP3, and if anything, that's scarier.

Quote

CP3 seeks to prevent acts of targeted violence and terrorism by working with the whole of society to establish and expand local prevention frameworks. Through technical, financial, and educational assistance, CP3 supports local efforts that prevent individuals from radicalizing to violence and intervene with individuals who may be radicalizing, or have radicalized, to violence.

The DHS targeted violence and terrorism prevention approach proactively places civil rights, civil liberties, and privacy concerns as a core component of its programs. The DHS Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (CRCL), the DHS Privacy Office, and the Office of the General Counsel are involved in every aspect of the DHS prevention mission, particularly in ensuring strategies, programs, and materials are developed and reviewed through these critical lenses. Additionally, CP3 has initiated a strategic engagement process focusing on proactively working with civil rights and civil liberties organizations with the goal of ensuring that these organizations are a key local voice and component in the development and implementation of local prevention efforts.

So the Disinformation Governance Board is partnered with a group that prevents terrorism against underserved communities, in cooperation with a DHS office that pursues social equity as a national security concern.  Under the control of people who's definition of "terrorism" includes "believing election fraud exists."

That's not just &#%$ed up.  That's Steve-Buscemi's-teeth &#%$ed up.
