He was shot while he was driving away, obviously refusing to collaborate. Does that warrant him getting shot?

Did the police think they were in danger? When I saw the video, I thought he appeared to try and hit the cops with the vehicle. Should they have left him flee? Was he a danger to the general public if he was unwilling to obey police officers with guns drawn? If he was willing to cause harm to police offers by hitting them with a vehicle (either intentionally or not) what would he have done to the general public?

Is this person/situation the impetus that is worth burning France down?

It is for the Algerian community.

Like I said...happens every ten years or so.  They just need an excuse.

Did you read the article ? He is known to police for having a fake car registration and selling weed.

Were the police actually in danger? They fired after he drove away.  Is he a martyr? No, but let’s not pretend that the police are innocent.

Yes.

So police had guns drawn on him, barking out orders. He takes off, attempting to hit them. What should the police have done?

He didn’t attempt to hit them he attempted to flee .  What are the rules of engagement in France with respect to using a firearm ?

In that video, I saw him try and hit the police and then attempt to flee. So, what are the rules of engagement in France with respect to police having drawn weapons on a suspect, said suspect disobeys their orders, and said suspect attempts to harm them and then flee the scene?

Not sure if its 100% accurate, but:

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/french-police-use-of-force-powers-road-traffic-stops-2023-06-28/

From the link:

Since 2017, French law has allowed police to use their firearms in five different scenarios:

- When their life or physical safety, or the life of another individual, is put at risk;

- When a place or people under their protection come under attack;

- When they are unable to prevent someone likely to threaten their life or physical safety, or other people's, from fleeing;

- When they are unable to stop a vehicle whose driver has ignored an order to stop and whose occupants are likely to pose a risk to their life or physical safety, or to other people's;

- If there is reason to believe it will prevent murder or attempted murder.

If this is accurate, those police met criteria 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

But hey, let's riot!

They had to meet one criteria. Not sure why you find this funny.
