Probably wished he'd paid them when the oily attorney came looking for a payout in the beginning.

The 7 page agreement is at this link.

NFL Star Deshaun Watson’s Settlement Offer to Sexual Misconduct Accuser

</snip>

In the settlement offer, Watson “denies all such claims and liability, including the facts alleged” by the accuser, and says the $100,000 payment is meant to “buy peace.”

If the accuser were to accept, they would then agree to dismiss the pending civil suit within 24 hours and adhere to strict confidentiality and non-disparagement clauses contained in the agreement, including that neither party nor their agents “will speak, write, or otherwise communicate publicly or privately, including in any interviews, social media posts, blog posts, articles or any other media or forum, on the terms of this Agreement, and the amount of the settlement”; will not disclose the “Settlement Amount”; and that any violation of the agreement’s terms “will cause irreparable harm and that money damages will be inadequate to fully compensate for such damages.”

</snip>

From the article:

Despite the large number of accusers, all of whom have shared strikingly similar stories, Watson has yet to face any legal repercussions

How long does an investigation take? Seems like it has been a year since these allegations first surfaced. In actuality, police began investigating him on April 2nd or thereabouts. I dunno but that just seems like an inordinate amount of time to put someone's (multiple someones) lives in limbo.

Additionally, while not conclusive in any way, shape or form, but if their stories are so strikingly similiar, shouldn't that make the investigation easier to a large degree? Anyhoo, it is a tragedy for all involved.

It is simple...Watson has resources.   He's likely started paying people off and that's making it much more difficult to make any case.

Report: Brian Flores told Tua the Dolphins were pursuing Deshaun Watson before their preseason finale

Former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores reportedly told Tua Tagovailoa prior to the team’s final 2021 preseason game that it was trying to acquire Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen offered that bit of information during the network’s Super Bowl preview.

“Sources say that in the final preseason game before the Dolphins played the [Cincinnati] Bengals, ironically, Flores told Tua that the rumors were true,” Mortensen said. “They were trying to get Deshaun Watson in a trade.”

I have no doubt this situation has caused a lot of stress for a lot of people, especially Deshaun Watson. Maybe he just needs a good massage to help him unwind.

Cap hit is too high for him to sit in 2022

where does he go?

where will he aqree to go?

Pitt?

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/02/24/multiple-teams-would-trade-for-deshaun-watson-without-a-settlement-of-civil-cases/

He faces two tracks, criminal and civil. His lawyer, Rusty Hardin, said Monday in open court that he expects the grand jury to make a decision regarding whether Watson will be charged with any crimes and the level of the charges (felony or misdemeanor) will be determined by April 1.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, multiple teams are indeed willing to make the deal, as long as the criminal situation is resolved.

Judge rules Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson can be questioned under oath in nine civil cases

</snip>

Hardin's motion to delay Watson's deposition was denied on Monday, at least in part.

"Deshaun Watson's team loudly and publicly claims he is innocent and wants nothing more than to clear his name, yet he refuses to sit in a room and face his accusers and answer questions under oath," Tony Buzbee, the Houston attorney for the 22 women suing Watson, said in a prepared statement Monday.

"Today [Watson] sought more delay; however, despite his efforts, the Court ruled that, at least with regard to the first nine plaintiffs, there will be no more delay," Buzbee added.

The court ruled Monday that Watson can be questioned under oath on allegations relating to nine of the pending civil cases. None of the women involved in those nine cases has filed a criminal complaint against Watson, and all of them have already provided depositions of their own in their ongoing civil cases.

I like Marcellus Wiley behind a mic. He's pretty bold. Here he breaks down how for Watson, it's Texans or nowhere, and it may just be the latter.

He says he should have settled with it first came out, and while many would argue that it would be equal to pleading guilty, he says that's not the case because "that's the price you pay when you get paid this price."

I don't even know if that makes sense, but it sounds cool coming from him.

Met him at the first Hunter's Hope ball, talked with him for 5-10 minutes.

Mostly just joking around (I think we spent five minutes on Shaquille O'Neal's enormous shoe up for auction).  He was a very funny, approachable guy.  Not surprised he's good behind a mic.

Athletic article.

Grand jury to meet Friday regarding Deshaun Watson, QB scheduled to be deposed for 2 cases

Quote

A grand jury is expected to convene Friday to decide if charges will be filed against Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson still faces 22 active civil suits accusing him of sexual assault and sexual misconduct.

Watson is also scheduled to be deposed on Friday in relation to some of those civil suits but is expected to plead the fifth amendment, according to a statement from Tony Buzbee, the lawyer for several of Watson’s accusers. ...

... What does Friday mean for Watson?

Lindsay Jones, senior NFL writer: The decision from the grand jury, which could come as early as Friday, is a pivotal moment for Watson and his football future.

The NFL has thus far held off on any sort of suspension, paid or otherwise, while criminal investigation and civil litigation was on going. An indictment on sexual assault (or similar) charges could change that, and would likely clear the way for Roger Goodell to inform teams that Watson would be placed on the commissioner's exempt list while the charges are pending. This wouldn't preclude a team for trading for him, but it would provide some clarity about his availability in the 2022 season.

If the grand jury declines to indict Watson, it seems unlikely Goodell would issue any sort of discipline until the NFL's own investigation into the allegations is complete. In that case, a team would be able to trade for Watson this spring and could plan for him to play in the fall, even if the civil cases remain active. ...

ESPN article (unpaid):

A grand jury will hear evidence Friday in the case involving Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, the same day he also will face questions for the first time in at least some of his pending civil lawsuits.

Watson's attorney Rusty Hardin confirmed the timing of the criminal and civil proceedings to ESPN and added he'll instruct Watson to assert his Fifth Amendment right to not incriminate himself during his testimony in the civil case Friday, given that he could be criminally charged that same day.

"I'm not going to let him answer questions from anybody before that grand jury has made its decision. There's not a lawyer in the country that would," Hardin told ESPN on Tuesday night.

The New York Times first reported Tuesday that several of the women who have filed criminal complaints against Watson have been subpoenaed to appear before the grand jury Friday.

The grand jury process does not require a unanimous vote. If nine of the 12 grand jurors return what's known as a "true bill" under Texas law, Harris County, Texas, District Attorney Kim Ogg could then opt to proceed with a criminal case against Watson, Hardin said.

Duh

If the grand jury decides to proceed with a criminal case, then we may be talking about something else entirely.

Either way, Friday is an important day.

From Brian Murphy (@bmurph13): How serious are the Commanders about trading for a QB and do they get it done?

From 1BJL1906 (@Big_John_1906): If you’re Ron Rivera and team trade comp is worked out for Watson or (less likely)
Wilson, what’s your pitch to the player for waiving their no trade clause to become the lead Commander?

Brian, they’re very serious. They were willing to send high-end picks in the next three drafts to land Wilson. They were ready to make a similar bid for Rodgers. They offered first- and third-round picks for Matthew Stafford last year and, I’m told, would’ve upped that offer to two first-rounders if the Lions had circled back with them before dealing him to the Rams. Their lack of a franchise quarterback is for no lack of trying.

And yes, I do think the Commanders have a lot to pitch a franchise quarterback. They have a legit No. 1 receiver in Terry McLaurin, a versatile tailback in Antonio Gibson, a really good tight end in Logan Thomas, a solid offensive line and the bones of what could become a dominant defense with a few tweaks. They also play in a huge East Coast market, and a big-name quarterback would have a shot to become synonymous with the new identity there.

The drawbacks are obvious. Through no fault of the football people, it’s been a weird couple of years for the franchise, and that actually could play into their next move.

My understanding is they won’t make a move on Deshaun Watson unless there’s full settlement of his legal situation, in large part because of what’s engulfed the team since the summer of 2020. That could wind up landing them on the outside looking in, since there’s at least a chance that another team will see resolution of the criminal charges as enough to deal off a king’s ransom to get him.
