Reports that the Ukrainian Army has cancelled all leave.

Starting tomorrow, right.  I mean, they still get to watch the Super Bowl right?

US Embassy in Kiev should be closed within the next 24-48 hours.  Some senior embassy officials have already relocated to the consulate in Lvov (on the Ukraine/Poland border).

Heavy artillery reported to be deploying in the Belgorod area.

BTW...I learned all the place names from military history (specifically, World War 2).  Spellings are different nowadays (e.g. Kyiv, Lviv).  I still go with what I know, though.

It's pretty telling that this Rothkopf idiot blocks anyone who points out that the Russians took Crimea under Obama's watch. Why it's almost like he's full of shit, and doesn't want to actually debate reality.

So today it appears that diplomacy MIGHT be working a bit. And then Zelenksy comes out with this:

“We understand that NATO membership would ensure our security and our territorial integrity,” Zelensky told reporters at a joint news conference with Germany’s Scholz."

This is starting to become a bit of the little boy antagonizing the bully twice his size while standing behind the teacher separating the two. First of all, the situation in your country is in no shape to have NATO step in and "defend" your borders. Second...fight your own damned conflicts. In this case, Putin is right. Ukraine joins the Alliance and then gets aggressive with Donbas or Crimea knowing it has NATO and Article 5 to lean on to step in.  Even if the effort is to claw back disputed territories Ukraine lost, this is not in any way shape or form the reason the Alliance exists in the first place.

That's not really how Article 5 works anyway.  NATO member countries are not bound to help a member country in acts of aggression.

Though, in the Ukraine's situation with the Crimea and breakaway provinces, that's admittedly substantially more ambiguous.  Still, I doubt many NATO members would jump in to help the Ukraine take back the Crimea.
