Great player....top 5 all time in total bases, RBI and HR, probably finish 12th in hits.

BUT.....kudos to the Cardinals for having the sack to make the right call on him ten years ago.

They got lucky he decided not to take the offer they made.  His greed saved them.

Agreed. That was always going to wind up as one of the worst contracts in baseball.

AND... at the end of the contract they still owe him 10m/year for 10 years as deferred comp.

Here’s the non-deferred part.

I figured you'd remember the details much better than me or anyone here.  I vaguely recall they tried to keep him but at a price well below the going 'A-Rod' level contract he was seeking.

The Cardinals offered 10 years and somewhere between $200M and $205M.  It basically came down to Pujols believing he'd make more endorsement money in California than he would in Missouri based on a variety of factors.  I'm not sure that ended up being true, especially when you factor in the significantly higher tax burden of his new home.

At the end of the day, the Cardinals won the World Series in 2011 after he left and have been a perennial baseball power.  The Angels have made the playoffs once.  Pujols himself has batting average that's over 70 points lower and his OBP has dropped over 100 points.  He's certainly missed St Louis more than they've missed him.

Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr. says he lost more than 40 pounds in the offseason

Vlad Jr. says he feels quicker, stronger and more athletic in spring training

I can't even imagine having to lose 40 pounds at TWENTY ONE YEARS old.  Holy hell, what would that dude weigh at 40?

That Pirates cap from the 70s top them all.  Just seeing that makes me think of Willie Stargell, Dave Parker and Kent Tekulve.

I have a white Marlins cap I bought in Florida in the early '90s before they played their first game.

I love the Cuban issues. I play in that space as well.
